And when only one medallion is in the cabin?

Ah ha!!!  This might solve a mystery for me.  On our September cruise we noticed cabins had various displays of doors locked, or flashing arrows or display OM to open and we wondered what the difference was between them.

I'll be on a mission to take pictures of the different displays now and figure out the secret code. 🙂

I could care less whether my name is displayed or not. It's been on my mailbox for many years.

I am still not in the witness protection program so no changes on the horizon.

Same here.....we were on Caribbean Princess and had no problems with OM program.....we actually really liked it and it sure made it easy to get in room if your hands were full.......I cannot figure out what all the worrying is about because as we know cabin break-ins and passenger assaults in cabins by strangers on Princess ships are about as rare as an empty plates in a buffet line.....the advantages of OM certainly were welcomed and we experienced no negatives!!

We just tested this.  We left one medallion in the cabin and took a walk.  Upon returning I approached the cabin without a medallion and the screen read:  approach with medallion for entry.  After entering with the second medallion, the screen went to:  door locked.

We use it [Princess At Sea app] exclusively over the last year. Never have seen anything left out. It has always worked very well.

Colo Cruiser:  I still have several specific examples of the failures to list all activities on the app.  These were all reported to Princess, both to Passenger Services and to corporate.  These are all from the Christmas 2017 sailing of the Ruby Princess [seven day Mex Riviera out of L.A.]:

  • Tues, Dec 26, Puerto Vallarta:  Folkloric Show (the only show that evening) was not listed in the app.
  • Tues, Dec 26, Mariachi in the Piazza was not listed in the app.
  • Wed, Dec 27, Mazatlán:  The show (Once Upon a Dream) was not listed on the app.
  • Fri, Dec 29, At Sea:  The Voice was not listed in the app.

These were the major activities that I saw not listed.  I obviously was NOT relying on the app by then, but I did note the major glitches to report to corporate.  I was still reviewing the printed Patter, and using a hi-lighter to help me plan my days.

Princess Luver:  I was not talking about the Medallion.  I was talking about the Princess At Sea smart phone app.

I do NOT like the idea of the Medallion unlocking the door as I approach.

What if I am not going to my cabin, but am simply walking down that corridor?  The system will unlock my cabin door as I pass.  So someone else can then gain entry, or I have to take the trouble of insuring that my cabin door is locked and firmed shut.  This means that I will have to avoid using my cabin's corridor as a through-passage.

Women should always be aware of someone walking behind them or approaching.  Maybe a woman will not feel comfortable about a fellow passenger in the corridor and will want to pass by her cabin instead of opening the door with this person in the corridor.  The medallion will open the door for her automatically.  Not good.

And the medallion will also announce to the potential stalker the woman's name and cabin number as she approaches the door, even if she has decided to walk by because she is uncomfortable.

I don't think I am paranoid, just situationally aware.  My training has me seeing a lot of problems with this new system.

I have the perfect solution for you, don't use it, it's not mandatory. By the way, I have never found myself walking by my cabin on the way to point B

I totally agree;  if you don't want to use it or are afraid then you don't have too.  To many people giving reasons why the OM will fail.  Give it a chance and you will be happy.  I can not wait for my cruise on CB in Feb;  gonna use the heck out of it

Is it really all right NOT to use it if you don't want to????  Confused!   :classic_unsure:

I discovered in the past that the Princess At Sea app did NOT list all of the day's events/activities, and that I could not rely on it.  Some shows were not listed, and a lot of activities were left off.  So if they decide to stop distributing the paper Patter, I certainly hope that the glitches in the At Sea app get fixed first!

I had the opposite experience recently.  Something was cancelled from the patter and the Princess at sea app had the update there.  I guess it just depends.  However, I detest carrying my phone with me on vacation.  So, I will likely reply on the paper patter for most things.

Someone just off the Ruby posted a review and said the names were not showing on the cabin door screen.

Ruby is NOT yet Medallion class ship.  They installed the door screens on the recent dry-dock, but the ship is not yet Medallion ready.

My comments are based on the reports that people have posted about the Medallion, and on what Princess has published.

I just don't see any upside to Medallion.  None of the so-called benefits appeal to me.  How great, I don't have to hand the cocktail waitress my cruise card!  How great, I don't have to hand over my cruise card at the retail store!   How great, they can track me wherever I go while I am on board the ship!

As I understand it, there are a total of 2 or 3 "chips" in a medallion. One of them has some distance to it so cabin door unlocks 6-10 feet away or ability to locate you within the ship. If you opt out, you get a card similar to the previous cruise card. It also has a chip with minimal range. To open door or to make purchase, card is placed on screen to be "read". I really don't understand all these imaginary concerns before people have even booked a cruise. Your cell phone puts out a signal over 1000X stronger.

The old mailbox is gone from outside the room. I took pictures of my recent experience of Caribbean Princess below. You can see where other people are if you connect your ID in the app.

CCFC:  Fascinating.  Thanks for the photos.

In the third photo, was that the door display telling whoever was authorized that Michael was on the Sun Deck?  "Michael Price, Sun Deck 16".

Yes, you can track fellow travellers on the big map (as long as they allow you). So I was on Emerald deck and could see my travelling companion was on the Sun deck by Tradewinds bar.

For people who want privacy is there a way to block this feature?

This photo is not the cabin door display.

It is a screen in one of the public areas.
