Repositioning transatlantic cruises from any port in florida

Recommended Posts

Need a little help!  My husband & I would like to take a transatlantic cruise one way to Rome in April  of

2020..... we would like to return on a transatlantic cruise to Florida between June 20 and June 30. We are “a little”

flexible with our dates. We are trying to be away for about 65 days which would INCLUDE the cruise each way. We are looking for

2 repositioning cruises ( 1 each way ) for 2 adults—- outside cabin.

It is highly unlikely there will be a cruise to the US from Europe in that window. The best place to look would be Cunard for their London to New York City runs.

Many ships will be moving to Europe in your window, as that is normal time for moving ships to Europe for the summer season. Try Holland America, for example.

Above is pretty much on target.  You'd pretty much have to wait until August if you don't want to take a Cunard ship back to the U.S. (or specifically to Florida).

Cunard will dump you in NY for the most part.

Lots of cruise lines move ships to Europe March through June, back in the August to December time frame.

There may be a few counter-cyclical sailings but these are premium/luxury lines and will be expensive.

As for booking, these cruses are generally not sought after and you can safely assume best bargains will occur after the final payment window (60-75 days pre-cruise) . You can keep an eye on pricing for 2019 as a guide.

Here is a cheat sheet for those cruises.  Note that the list for 2020 is short yet.  Many schedules are not out yet.

Disagree that these cruises are not sought after.  I believe the secret is out and they are not the bargains they once were.  EM

You may not find any TA cruise from Fl in June , more likely late April -May .

and as posted , you would have to wait until late Aug-Nov for a return to Fl.

Cunard QM2 Southampton to NYC would be your only choice to return in the Summer months .

You could probably book the time frame you wish both ways  on the QM2 but from NYC then get to where you wish in Europe using other transport .

Love the long cruise but disagree that they are not popular - each of ours were full sailings.  You might find a bargain last minute but it could be difficult.  The eastbound to Rome should be no problem in the spring but as answered above, the return TA is fall when ships are repositioning from Europe to Caribbean routes.

You should have lots of Eastbound TA options in April, but not all call at Civitavecchia, which is the port for Rome. Might have to accept other arrival ports and fly to Rome.

Westbound TA's start in the Fall after the Baltic/Meddy season. Only TA's available in June is probably the Queen Mary 2 from Southampton or Hamburg.

The OP is our kind of traveler :).  We have done this same kind of thing a few times and it was always lovely to avoid the long flights.  There is an excellent option which would be to use the June 21 Queen Mary 2 crossing which departs from Southampton on the 21st and arrives at NYC (Brooklyn) on June 29.  It is also possible to do this as a 7 day "crossing" by embarking on June 22 in Le Havre.  Doing a crossing on the "Queen" is a fun experience for those of us who like sea days.  Just keep in mind that the "Queen" tends to be somewhat formal on these crossings so one should pack accordingly.  Men certainly would need a jacket and tie for some evenings and a Tux or dark suit is very common.

Or course the OP would need to do a little planning regarding getting themselves to Southampton or Le Havre, but that is very doable from anywhere in Europe.

We have done a transatlantic out of Florida to Europe when the ships are repositioning a number of times. For our return we have booked Cunard's Queen Mary 2. Or we go over on Queen Mary 2 and come back on a repositioning in the Fall.

Queen Mary 2 does crossings of the Atlantic several times a year, 7 days non stop between NYC (usually Red Hook at Brooklyn) and Southampton or Southampton to NY. We've done them both ways depending on the time of year.

It is a much more pleasant way to cross the ocean.

Queen Mary 2 will be changing this up a bit in 2020.

If you can move your departure from Europe up a bit, you can take the Carnival Radiance (Victory) from Barcelona to NYC on June 11, 13 days.  She will be drydocked for major overhaul and new name, and sail a few Med. cruises before the transAtlantic.  EM.
