UBP - taxes while in port

Does any one know which port they will charge you the taxes on the drinks, even if you have the UBP?

All of the east coast ports charge taxes, but the figure is so small it is not worth worrying about. In Florida it is less than $1 per drink.

We have been paying the taxes for the past 4 or 5 years on all the sailings. It is very little as mentioned and isn't worth worrying about. Most of us are not going to consume that much from boarding time to sailing time.

It seems to only be US ports. It's usually very minimal. I think, for the two of us, on all our sailings it has never been more than $10.

Just about all US ports charge some kind of tax, but it usually just pennies, and it is only until you leave their territorial waters.  The one that gets you more than others is New Orleans.  You'll get charged Louisiana taxes from the time you board until about midnight when you actually get to the Gulf of Mexico.

Couple things:

 

- Not just a US thing as some countries will charge VAT

- on the Sky, unless you order something outside the covered items, you will pay no sales tax at a port she visits. I don't know the specifics but because it's an all-inclusive it's taxed differently.

 

- interested to know if UK All-Inclusive fares are taxed while in US ports, etc

Our departure was delayed from NYC on the Breakaway several years ago and I know we paid taxes then. It was very minimal considering all our drinks the first night were taxed.

From NYC til out of the line (territorial water), it was less than $1.00

No need to worry about the taxes while in port, just go ahead to get and enjoy drinks once on board.

You already paid the gratuity on these drinks.

We were charged in Hawaii

wow I didn't realize that. I guess when we sailed out of NOLA we didn't pay attention.
