lbsaady Posted November 15, 2018 #1 Share Posted November 15, 2018 I will be traveling on Royal Caribbean's Navigator of the Seas for a 5 night western Caribbean cruise. Any suggestions for a first-time cruiser--where to go first? what to bring? which excursions are a "must" (with older children/teen)? do I need to buy the internet/streaming package? Not sure where to begin
JimnKaren Posted November 15, 2018 #2 Share Posted November 15, 2018 Welcome to Cruise Critic. You can ask lots and lots of questions here. BUT, once you learn, you gotta share what you have learned. Here is a tip: go to the cruise line form where you will be sailing: https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forum/51-royal-caribbean-international/ Here is another tip: join your roll call and make friends and ask for advice from folks who have been there and done that. Last tip for tonight from me: have a great time! Jim
paul929207 Posted November 15, 2018 #3 Share Posted November 15, 2018 Jim has given you great advice. Go to the RCI section. There you will find many people familiar with the cruise line and your cruise.
cb at sea Posted November 18, 2018 #4 Share Posted November 18, 2018 NO excursion is a "must"! It really depends on what you want to do! The Caribbean is pretty easy to DIY....all you need is some info on your ports. Google your ports...or get a guidebook. Most things are simple, cheap and easy on your own. If you are going FAR afield and need major transportation to do what you want, a guide might be a good idea.....otherwise....do your due research...and see what interests you! You need bring nothing special that you wouldn't bring on ANY vacation.

skiierx131 Posted November 20, 2018 #6 Share Posted November 20, 2018 Make sure to always bring an ID with you when you get off the ship.
LA_CA_GAL Posted November 20, 2018 #7 Share Posted November 20, 2018 You can do research before hand. Especially on your ship's layout. Get familiar with the layout of the ship, find out what is most interesting to you, and which activities and areas you will be spending the most time. SPacificbound Posted November 22, 2018 #8 Share Posted November 22, 2018 Navigator is a great ship! Take a look at deck plans and you will get around easily.

SRF Posted November 22, 2018 #10 Share Posted November 22, 2018 My BEST advice....... Relax, have fun. Don't try to do everything. Don't overdo it. It IS a vacation. Nothing is a MUST do. So it you miss something, there are many other things to do.
trish1c Posted November 22, 2018 #11 Share Posted November 22, 2018 Read the FAQ section on the cruise line website. Watch a few You Tube videos about your ship to get a feel for the layout. Go over the excursions & your budget with your traveling companions to see what they think are the "must do" adventures. Getting the internet package is up to you. We always get it. I need to communicate with my office. DH also used to go to school on line & needed to be able to keep up with class. But if you don't have a major need, it's a luxury & you can probably get by with free wi-fi when you get off at each port. Even when we didn't buy the big package we usually bought 15 minutes on disembarkation day to down load our plane tickets for going home. Now with texting, that is less vital. lauren009 Posted December 1, 2018 #12 Share Posted December 1, 2018 I have yet to sail Royal Caribbean, but here is all the cruise advice I can give you via blog posts: http://laurenofalltrades.blogspot.com/p/cruise-tips.html For the posts that aren't specific to a cruise line, I did research RCL so that I could include it in my reporting. pacruise804 Posted January 10, 2019 #14 Share Posted January 10, 2019 crazyaae, your must haves list includes a surge protected power strip. Please note that most (if not all) lines prohibit these as they are a fire hazard. Some lines allow non-surge protected strips.
crazyaae Posted January 10, 2019 #15 Share Posted January 10, 2019 Thanks for catching that, Fixed it. My model is no longer sold so when i picked a silmilar one, I didn't catch the surge protection.
