Cashing Personal Check

Would I be able to cash a personal check at either guest services or the casino?  Is there a dollar limit to the check I cash?  How many checks would I be allowed to right during a 7 day cruise?

I believe the limit on checks is $50 or $100. It’s been a long time since I cashed a check. Try contacting Captains Club, they’d have more up to date info

Bring your photo id with you when you go to Guest Relations.  They will cash one check per cruise for $200 (or two checks for $100 each, etc.)

All Celebrity ships have two ATMs that dispense USD and the predominant local currency.  A month ago, the ATM fee levied by the owner BB&T was USD 6.50.  It shows on your statement as BB&T, Miami, FL.

you can definitely cash a check for  up toUS$200.00.  I would NEVER use the ATM and pay the fee.  It is way too high !!!

That fee, unfortunately, doesn't include the fee your bank may charge for being out of network.

My bank automatically refunds my account for any third party ATM charges.

Too bad Celebrity doesn’t have a free ATM machine. Here in the Netherlands, and also in Norway, where I was born, checks have not been used in 20 years. ATM’s here are always free, though.

If you don’t use personal checks then this service doesn’t apply to you, but I cash a $200 check on nearly every cruise and am happy Celebrity makes this available.

in Canada we have "cheques".  Well, we used to.  I haven't used one nor have I seen anyone use one in more than 10 years.  In Canada, they are quite obsolete, along with traveller's cheques.  Very interesting that Celebrity still offers this service.  Is it because it's more common to use checks in the U.S.?

I only write a few checks a year. Maybe five. I do one check electronically with online banking. On cruises I take a little cash. Almost all is for any tipping. I use credit cards for purchases at the ports.

Checks are not hardly used at all, it puts your checking account number and bank routing number out there for prying eyes to see.  Not secure at all.

So  does mine!  When it comes to banks, consumers are creatures of habit and seldom change banks to other banks and credit unions that offer much more favorable terms.  This is a dirty secret in the banking world which is why some banks (generally the larger commercial banks) keep increasing fees.  They do it because they can.  It is often the smaller local/regional banks and especially the very consumer friendly credit unions that have policies that are pro customer.  For example, our main credit union reimbursed most ATM fees, issues a no-fee Visa card with zero foreign exchange fees, and actually pays us dividends at the end of the year.  Yes, our bank actually pays us to use their services.  Imagine :).
