Hotel in Singapore

Have a cruise coming up that leaves from Singapore.  We made our own flight arrangements and are arriving 2 days before the cruise.  Looking for recommendations for a hotel room for my husband and I.  Prefer moderate price and close to attractions. Thanks!

We were in Singapore last year on a land trip for four days. We selected the Ibis Bencoolen w/the breakfast option.  Paid in advance, non refundable, and had a very good savings.

Room was spotless.  Standard Ibis room-very functional.  Breakfast was good.  Staff were excellent.  The hotel is near the Little India district.  Bus at the door, two subway stations nearby.  We very much liked the location. even after spending four days travelling about the area.

We signed up for the accor hotels membership.   We sometimes find that they have very good special offers for members-even better when they are prepay/non refundable.

We would definitely stay at the Royal Plaza on Scott's Road...wonderful hotel and the location perfect.

Also don't miss going to the night street food at Lau Pa Satay...so good we went two nights....Just Google this to see what you don't want to miss.

In 2016 we spent seven nights at the Pan Pacific on Raffles Blvd.  Absolutely wonderful hotel with incredible staff.  Our rate included an expansive breakfast (both cooked to order and buffet, with dishes ranging from traditional North American, European and Asian delights).  Very close to two MRT stations.  But I am not sure I would describe it as being "moderate" in price -- even for Singapore.

We have spent the last five winters in SE Asia.  We often book hotel hotels in cities like Bangkok, Penang, or Kuala Lumpur directly  on Marriott, Accor (many brands) or other hotel member websites during their black friday or boxing day sales.   That is how we booked Singapore last year.    They sometimes have surprisingly good offers but you do need to be ready to hit the buy button when you see an attractive offer.  Sometimes, like cruise prices, they get snapped up very quickly.

Not certain when you will be there however if it is on or around Chinese New Year (early Feb I believe) then you need get a confirmed reservation nailed down now.  We learned this the hard way on our first trip.

The Royal Plaza on Scotts Rd. worked well for us!

Raffles was closed when we were in Singapore last year.  It was undergoing major renovation.   The front was completely boarded up on all sides.

So, our guess is that it would be a fabulous place to stay.  We walked by it often. Very cental location.  No doubt it is very pricey.

Your location may depend on whether you want to shop.  We are not great shoppers so we not care about getting a hotel that was close to the big stores and shopping area.

We also stayed at Royal Plaza on Scotts for 3 nights after cruise and it was absolutely excellent.  Recommend a Club Premiere room which included the Club Lounge access in the evening for drinks and nibbles.  Singapore is expensive for alcohol so access to the Club was really good. We stayed in a hell hole of a hotel for 1 night prior to our cruise.  It was awful and called the Grand Pacific.

We are staying at The Scarlet Hotel in Chinatown Singapore.  I'm not sure when you are going but I'm there in 18th January so I can give you my opinion of it then 🙂

We stayed at the Royal Plaza on Scotts in March of this year.  We were in one of their club rooms.

The room was clean and nice

Room cost included all the snacks in the room and fridge, and you have an espresso coffee maker (I think this is included even if you are not in a club room, but not 100% sure)

Gym was open 24hrs, which was nice....gave me something to do at 2am when I was wide awake struggling with the time change.  It’s small, but had good quality machines.

The breakfast was included with the club room, if I remember the cost for this buffet was about $30.  It’s quite an impressive spread, huge variety, but you can definitely get cheaper eats close to the hotel.   Had western and Asian choices and a pretty good self serve latte/cappuccino machine.

We were underwhelmed with the “lounge” access that comes with the club room.  This is where you check in.  The have complimentary snacks and alcoholic beverages every afternoon.

We picked this hotel because I had read so many rave reviews here on cruise critic and trip advisor.   It definitely met our needs but I was not blown away, to me it was just a good hotel.  And honestly, isn’t that all you need on a vacation?    So I would stay there again if the price was competitive....but would not opt for the club room.

As far as location, it was excellent in that it’s so close to the underground transportation system.  The underground is an efficient and inexpensive way to get around.  I would highly recommend whatever hotel you pick be near an underground station (my guess is most hotels are).

Have an amazing time, we very much enjoyed Singapore!

Edit:  Somehow these 2 random photos ended up at the bottom of my post,  I didn’t mean to post them ....obviously one is of the bathroom and the other is the pastry section in the breakfast buffet.  Still figuring out this new site 🤪

We will be needing a hotel for our post cruise stay in November.   I have not told my husband about it yet - never do until close to final payment.  When would you say I should try to book the hotel by?   Not sure when I will tell him ( I think I need to do it sooner than I normally do) but hate to pay upfront until I do.   thanks

Jankie - A 4 star hotel I have used recently is - Hotel Royal at Queens.

This hotel is one of only a few that is within 100 metres of a MRT station, has reasonable prices & large for Singapore rooms.

Most rooms are 28m2 / 301 sq.ft. with included breakfast at around US$200 / night - Non refundable.

Only 3 stations from Orchard MRT & S$17 by taxi to Marina Bay Cruise Centre.

As Singapore is always hot & humid the secret it to use AC spaces - shopping centres, taxis & MRT.
