If planning to sail out of or into San Pedro (AKA Port of Los Angeles), military ID card holders may wish to save $$$ and stay at Ft. MacArthur which is very close to the cruise port. Ft. MacArthur is part of Los Angeles AFB. The Ft. MacArthur Inn can be reached at (310) 653-8296. The address is 2400 S. Pacific Ave., Bldg 37, San Pedro, CA 90731. If 0-6 and above, call LAAFB Protocol Office at (310) 653-2256.

Do they offer a shuttle to the port? We're on the east coast and within a few hours from each of several ports but would love to take a cruise from the west coast some time.

We have stayed at Fort MacArthur a couple of times. It's basic military housing, comfortable, affordable but nothing to write home about. I'm sure they don't have a shuttle but it's not that far from port - maybe a 10 minute drive. You can Uber but you will have to drag your bags to the front gate because they don't allow Uber on base. At least that's what we were told. However, you will not be that far from the gate -- maybe a block.

If you're cruising out of the World Cruise Center (100 Swinford St. not Carnival Windsor Way), you might also try the Crowne Plaza Los Angeles Harbor Hotel.  If you use points (earned or bought), you avoid the tax.  It's a little bit more than Fort MacArthur+Uber, but it's walking distance to the port (about .4 mile to the port parking lot).  Just in case Fort MacArthur is full or you want/need to make reservations more than 120 days out.

I stayed in a DV bungalow. It was old but very spacious and comfortable.

you are correct about the lack of a shuttle, but we were staying several days and had a car from Enterprise in San Pedro.

FYI, we find that staying at Ft. MacArthur is no longer affordable. They raised their rates a few years ago and you can find something newer and cheaper off base. The exception would be if you have a pet you will be putting in boarding before your cruise and you are a big group. We can get a unit for six people that is dog friendly and it’s cheaper than getting three hotel rooms elsewhere (since we cruise with or kids and their significant others sometimes).
