Lots of noise during daytime from the Teater when they rehearse and every time they have a show in the night. Bathroom  and sleeping area is vibrating according to the music played. Not good if you need it to be quiet. Thank you for the great information on the theater noise in your cabin. No one has reported that yet here so it is good for people to know. I am sorry that you had to listen to that noise.

 

I am not totally clear on the statement above about the floor and 3.5 m after the barrier. Are you talking about the deck (floor) outside your balcony? Were there people walking by out there?

Yes, the deck outside the balcony.

As you can see on the pictures, the balcony do not go all the way to the end of the ship. So you have this platform area in front. So you can not see directly down into the ocean. And you can not walk. 

The area is closed for public, it is only maintenance personnel that will enter.

Good Sized Balcony - Width & Depth; we had two chairs, two loungers, a large table and a small table - was a bit cluttered with all this furniture, but still some room to move around.

View is Obstructed Looking Forward (as Magic Carpet structure juts out significantly deeper than the balcony does; the 12th floor end S3's do NOT have a forward looking window like the S3's on lower decks). When the Magic Carpet is parked on deck 14 (which is just one deck up, since there is no Deck 13) the view looking up (and to a lesser extent looking out) is obstructed by the ceiling and spikes of the Magic Carpet.

Lots of noise from the pool deck; when live music was playing up there it could be heard even inside the suite with the door closed. Large bathroom; plenty of storage in bathroom and living area, but main closet is very close to the bed - making it a bit awkward to use. Plenty of outlets. Great mid-ship location and very convenient to Luminae and the Retreat Lounge/Pool. Not crazy about the furniture (sofa rather hard/stiff and no comfortable chairs for relaxing in the suite).

Noise Issues?:     Some from deck 14. Occasional bass reverberation/music from pool deck. Occasional stomping overhead. Neither of these bothered us, as we were up late anyway. Most bothersome was the three nights of loud creaking in the ceiling above the bed, which we realized was caused by the expansion/contraction of the ship as she rolled from side to side in moderate swell (approximately 7 meters or 23 feet). The rolling wasn't bothersome at all (like being rocked to sleep). The usual creaks and rattles of a ship at sea were also no problem, but the loud creaking kept me awake for a long time one night (though DH slept like a happy baby lol).  The loud creaking was not present on the other 12 nights of our cruise, because the sea was calmer.

Advantages/Problems/Comments:   Midship location very convenient for trotting up to OVC, El Secondo Bacio, the track, and other public areas of decks 14 & 15. The cabin is located under the Deck 14 Ladies Room & entrance to OVC, so there is very little noise of chairs or loungers being dragged around overhead. There are no crew closets or stairways nearby. Noise issues are noted above. We considered the overhang advantageous in FL because we had less direct sun in the cabin, and when it was raining or drizzling. However, the overhang was quite annoying when we were trying to take photos.                                                                                                                       

 

                                                                                                                                                              

Would You Book It Again?:  Possibly. I would not book another IV unless the new veranda chairs (on order) render the veranda easier to use without moving furniture to reach the window controls or close the bifold doors. Should those issues be resolved, I would not book an IV for a cruise in a warm/hot climate, but I would consider one (including this specific cabin, though it wouldn't be my first choice because of the overhang) for some itineraries, but only for the right price.

Furniture on the balcony is still not adequate for eating/enjoying breakfast outside. Our Butler came to the rescue and provided us with a very nice table so we could eat comfortably.

A coffee table has been added inside the cabin, but it is too low to use for eating. Noise Issues?:         Yes, during the day and night with barely rough seas a loud metal noise, sounded like two steel cables rubbing together.  Took audio of it to Guest Relations.  They said it was the way the ship was built and there was nothing to be done.  Two nights without sleep due to this.

VT, I just noticed that you changed my cabin location to “aft” on the spreadsheet. This is a mistake if you want to maintain remain consistent with the other cabin spreadsheets, which use Celebrity’s location designation. Celebrity lists that cabin as midship. Thanks, M🌺

I have been labeling cabins by the aft elevators as "aft".  I just checked the X website and it looks like they start calling them aft at the bump out on deck 12219 and 12220. I guess I should label them the same.  I will need to go through and fix many of them. 🙂

After Silkroad pointed out that Celebrity labeled her cabin near the aft elevators as midship, I went to the Celebrity website and went deck by deck checking what was considered forward, aft and midship on the Edge. I marked the results in red below. Interesting, it is almost always different on each deck, depending on how the cabins are categorized (midship cabins are a usually a higher category and cost a little more). It looks like they categorized the cabins and then assigned fore, mid and aft, instead of the other way around. I will use Celebrity's website categorization to be consistent and have changed all the ones that were previously not consistent with Celebrity's website.

Thanks Vt. This is very illuminating. I see that, excepting the lowest passenger deck, the cabins X has designated as midship do encompass what I call the midship (called aft on this ship) elevator. We also need to consider the part of the ship that’s underwater when trying to figure out true midship. To add to the confusion, I’m 99% positive that the rear elevators are called the “Midship Elevators” on S class ships. Also, having walked every passenger deck numerous times, I can say that it’s a much shorter walk from the forward elevators to the cabins nearest the bow, than it is from the midship aka aft elevators to the SV cabins and aft suites. I wish X would return to the more logical elevator name (midship).

                                                                                                                                                                                                                        Advantages/Problems/Comments:  Approximately 3-4 feet longer than a standard stateroom.   So there was 3-4 feet between the side of the bed and the veranda door.    Balcony does get soot from the funnels, not extensive, but you would need to wipe down the chairs and railing to ensure it doesn't stain your clothes.   Balcony is large enough for a lounger.   I did notice that 8323, also a SV, did have at least one lounger.   I suspect it was a special request.   No traffic outside in the hallway.   There is a swinging door (with round window) in the hall between 8314 and 8323.

Should we stay away from decks 6 and 12 since they are above and below what look to be busy public area decks?
