Cheated!!

While on two cruises earlier this year aboard Silhouette and Eclipse we attended presentations about the new Apex due to go into service in 2020 and the big news was that it would be sailing out of Southampton. I know many people including ourselves were very excited about this wonderful development, we took out an advanced booking option and just waited for the itineraries to be published ready to get in with our booking on the 27th November.

I have just seen the itineraries and I feel quite let down even cheated there are only the first four cruises sailing out of Southampton (sadly we cannot go on any of these cruises) the ship then goes to Barcelona. What a let down. Needless to say we will not be converting our booking option into a cruise aboard the Apex we are struggling flying these days. Very very sad!!!

This is an extract from e-mail received from Celebrity. It certainly gives the impression that Apex will be based in Southampton for 2020 summer cruises. No suggestion that it would be for only 5 cruises:

"Celebrity Apex is the second Edge-class ship and will homeport in Southampton in April 2020 for its first ever cruises. It will be the first time that Celebrity Cruises will operate two ships from the UK’s favourite port, with Celebrity Silhouette returning to Southampton for her third consecutive year. "

This is an extract found elsewhere:

"Celebrity Apex inaugural cruise itinerary program is based on roundtrips from homeport Southampton (England UK). The new liner will offer a short pre-naming voyage (April 2020) for travel agents only. From Southampton are scheduled 5 departures to ports in northern Europe and Mediterranean. These roundtrip itineraries range from 7 to 10 days. Then the ship will be repositioned to mediterranean (homeports Barcelonaand Civitavecchia-Rome) during the European maiden season."

I think 'cheated' is quite fair when Celebrity are describing Southampton as a 'homeport' - actually more of a quick stop over!!  But it will be nice to see a different ship - albeit briefly.  Southampton is such a busy, popular cruise port and all we had was Eclipse year in year out - they really changed things up recently with Silhouette!!!

If you remove the rose tinted glasses and read those again, there is nothing that states the ship will ONLY homeport in Southampton. In fact it clearly states that they will move it elsewhere.

I believe the OP was comparing the two statements. Celebrity could have clearer to its UK base by stating that it will be moving to Rome and Barcelona in its email.

Celebrity does NOT state clearly that they will move it elsewhere. They were making the point that two ships would have Southampton as their home port but no mention that only the initial 5 cruises would be from Southampton.

I included the second quote which was NOT made by Celebrity to highlight the future plan for Apex - it was published on Nov 21, 2018.

Nothing in Celebrity’s email or website indicate that Apex would relocate.
