Winter jackets?

We will be leaving December 2 from Sydney to cruise around southern New Zealand and up to Auckland.  I know the weather can be variable but is it a good idea to bring winter jackets for the first few days especially going into Milford Sound?  We are bringing lightweight rain jackets.

Winter jacket would be a good idea for Milford Sound, as it can be cold there, on a ship.

I always take stuff I can layer.

We were in Milford Sound two weeks ago, arriving in the sound at about 6.45 am. It was quite cold and I had a winter weight waterproof jacket on. As we traveled through the sounds I was able to remove the jacket but put it back on later in the day. As you are taking rain jackets, wear fleece type garments under them if it is needed. I also had a scarf and probably should have had my gloves on but found it difficult to take photos with them on.

Yeah when we were there had to keep putting the camera aside to warm my delicate little fingers.

I take a fleece and a light rain jacket, that way I'm covered for all circumstances. I also take a warm hat, scarf, and gloves.
