New Year to Bruges and Amsterdam (Birthday and Formal nights)

We're heading out in about 2 weeks! Very excited! Can anyone give me any details as to which evenings are formal? And what happens on NYEve and NYDay?

 

We'll be taking a cake with us for my Dad's birthday (he's diabetic) - can we take it into to restaurant with us for his birthday or should we just ask? And who should I mention it to that it's a special birthday?!

 

It's myself and two sons (8 and 5) and my Mum and Dad for my Dad's birthday.

I'm assuming this is a 5 night cruise, in which case you'll have one formal night which will be NYE itself, I would suggest you check out the 'NYE cruise Oceana' and 'Festive Dining Choices' threads on here which should give you some more info.  On NYE as you may expect there'll be a party atmosphere on board and shows in the usual venues.

You don't say which day is your dads birthday but I would bear in mind that on NYE they will be very busy in the MDR so wouldn't like to say if any special requests could be accommodated, I would suggest you check with the restaurant staff on your first night to see what's possible.
