How do you acquire a DOU card in the casinos?

Is there a certain amount you must play in order to purchase this card?

You must "Acquire"  1500 points via your casino play.  On the slots the formula is $2.50 per point through the machine.  On table games, the formula requires a calculator, paper and pen, possibly a protractor, maybe a Ouija board and some tarot cards!

So to get $100 of free drinks per day, you have to play about $3500 in slots or who knows in table games??    7 Day cruise, $ 3500 - $ 700 = $2800  / 7 days = $400 per day.

 

Cheers costs $60 a day, x 7 days = $420    Did I miss something here??

I don't think you're missing anything unless the math is over my head (arithmetic wasn't my best subject in school). I suppose the people who gamble and have a lot more money to spend in the casino than I do find the DOU a benefit but I'm not seeing it either.

You need to accrue 1000 points on a shorter cruise and 1500 on a longer 7+ days cruise. I usually reach both on the second day of the cruise after spending about $200......could be my money or it could be on my winnings. We have been on 47 cruises and 34 on Carnival, so I have lots of casino experience. I normally play the $.01 slots (play $.40-.80 per play) and $.25 video poker (play 5 quarters each hand). I allow myself $150-200 per day in the casino. I usually come home with money, sometimes only $200 and sometimes $1500 or more, depends on how lucky I am.

They are not playing exclusively for drinks. They spend enough enjoying themselves that the casinos enjoy their company enough to give them drinks.

The missing piece is that it is money THROUGH the machine, not necessarily money put into the machine.  If I put $100 into a machine, then win $200 I now have played $300 through the machine while only contributing $100 of my own money.  

 

Additionally, I am not playing for the DOU card, I am playing for entertainment.  If I receive the DOU card, its is usually just an extra.  On port heavy cruises I buy the drink package anyway because the DOU card only works when the casino is open. 

 

For people that are not gambling as part of their planned entertainment, usually the DOU card makes no sense as a goal.  Everyone has their thing!!

Yes. It totally is, with out question.  My intention was never to correct your math, it was correct from the start.  My only purpose in posting what I did was to give anyone else a more detailed response to the situation.  I have NEVER spent $3500 of my own money in a cruise ship casino.  I have, however earned the DOU card by earning 1500 points which would mean I had played that much, while only actually paying about $500.  Is it a certainty?  Absolutely not.  But it is most casino players experience.

Lucky You!   Unless the slots were set to 75-80% payout (which I  doubt, usually less than 50%), reaching the DOU count costs about $1-2k.  (btw, I set my slot machine in the garage to 60%)    If you are lucky .... it still cost more than simply purchasing the Cheers card.   

 

My point is that the DOU card is much more expensive than just buying the Cheers pgm!

When you have 1500 points, you take your sign and sail card to the Casino office, and they give you a tag.  I earned one, once in my life, the afternoon of our last 8  day cruise.  The Waiter ( catch one. Going to the casino bar ...you pay) laughed out loud when he saw it. Asked why so late. Told him I jut had a win. Big one. true.  He brought me a glass of white wine, nd I took it to dinner.  You have to PLAY a lot to get free drinks.

You can also cruise frequently like I do, say 4 x a year or more, play moderately in the casino, and accumulate enough total points from all those cruises to get invites for Premier casino cruises.

 

If you book a Premier fare, you will find a DOU card for you and a guest in your cabin upon boarding.

To me this makes total sense. When you buy Cheers, you're paying for drinks only. When you gamble enough to qualify for free drinks, you're getting drinks and hours of entertainment.

No, on average that is correct... However, I got a Drinks on Us card once on a cruise and I came away winning 500.00 for the week.  So, the drinks on us card cost the casino 500.00 to give it to me...  All my other cruises I never came close to getting the card as I usually only gamble about 100.00 of my money on a cruise..

Don't even try to get a DOU card at the tables. I don't think it can be done. Easier to do it at the slots.

I have gotten it twice on the tables, but I played a lot. Didn't matter because I had Cheers. Asked if I could keep it as a souvenir and I did. On the last cruise, I gambled more and longer...nothing. Not really sure how it works, sometimes it just does.

I have calculated most slots to return 83% excluding progressives. So If you put $ 2500 in a machine it will return $ 2075. DOU then costs $ 425, about the same as cheers. 

 

You do have on each pull a chance to win a progressive. On my ten cruises I have made the $ 5000 list (those who have left the ship with more than 5K.) on four of them. I have also received free inside or balcony rooms. 

 

On recent cruises I have found DOU cards in the cabin when boarding, or given to me when visiting the cage the first time the casino is open. 

 

I just wish they would make DOU like it is on Elite cruises where you can get comped at any venue. The casino bar is nice, but if you want a glass of wine in the dining room or a cocktail in the comedy club, you need to pay.

You can always just go to the casino to get your refreshment prior to going to the dining room or the comedy club.
