Day of Embarkation - What time?

We've just booked our second cruise ever, and the first in 16 years. We are cruising with NCL and embarking from Barcelona. The schedule says departure is 6 pm and all guests must be boarded by 4 pm.  Reading the forums, it seems that everyone rushes to board as soon as possible (e.g., by noon). But we are thinking about booking a half-day city tour with a company that will pick us up at the hotel that morning (luggage and all) and have us to the port no later than 2-2:30 pm. This should leave us plenty of time to get checked in and boarded shouldn't it?

We have done this previously, with Barcelona Day Tours.  They collected us at our hotel, stored our luggage in the van and dropped us to the cruise terminal at the end of the tour.

We were there in plenty of time for boarding.
