Marseille to Aix

A taxi from the port to the train or bus station works well. The two stations are across from each other in Marseille. Bus is a bit slower, but runs more frequently and is a bit cheaper.  Another way is to take the shuttle into Marseille and walk to the stations.

You will find specific instructions in a Toms Port guide, starting on page 32ish of the following pdf.

Obviously prices have changed since this was written, but usually there are links in his guides to the actual transportation websites....for current timetables and fares.

There are a few options to get between Marseille and Aix...although keep in mind that the port (at Marseille) is outside of town and if using town as your starting point you will need either a shuttle bus or taxi (there is also an elusive local bus that we choose to ignore).  Between Aix and Marseille you can use either the train or bus (both start from the St Charles Trains station or adjacent bus area).  Another option is to rent a car and drive yourself, but you must first get to the various rental car agencies...most of which are located near the St Charles Train Station or all the way out at the airport.  And the last option would be to hire a taxi (negotiate a price in advance of leaving in a taxi).

As to the train or bus being "easy" that would be a big maybe.  The problem is that you must get from your port to the train station.  The fastest way to do this would be to get a taxi from the port (assuming you can find a taxi willing to do this short haul).  Some cruise lines will have a shuttle bus (often for a price about the same as sharing a taxi) but the buses will generally drop you at the Vieux Port (Old Port) which is still a good 15 min hike to the train station.  Once at the St Charles Train station you can check both the bus and train schedules and decide which is your best option.
