Arriving in Barcelona on September 15th and longing for restaurant  recommendations !  There are a group of us staying in hotels within walking distance of Las Ramblas and Placa Cataluna! Any recommendations would be appreciated!

Boy you are early

There are thousand of choices in the general vicinity you suggest and you will need to do some narrowing yourself based on likes/dislikes and dietary restrictions from your party on several dimensions from type of cuisine, cost, service to formality etc. One thing easy you can do is research this very forum using the search feature for Barcelona restaurants and see what the many others before you have recommended and then research them further using review sites. Also note posts from a frequent poster Enrique and his very helpful local perspectives as he lives there. While he won't ever recommend specific restaurants he offers great local web links one can investigate. You are probably aware of review sites like Yelp, Trip Advisor, Fork, Foursquare and USA Today's "10 Best" web columns whose search results can be filtered several ways including neighborhood, cuisine etc. All that being said my wife and I have taken a liking to restaurants we have found in the Barrio Gothic/Born neighborhood and the Gracia neighborhoods. You will also find more restaurants than not are small with limited seating so if your "group" is six or larger you are going to have some difficulty getting "together" seating unless its specifically a larger scale establishment - something to keep an eye out for. On the larger scale are restaurants from GrupoAndilana can be considered a bit more formal and of very good quality. Some of their frequently mentioned establishments include La Fonda, Quinze Nits and Alta Mare  (on top of one of the few skyscrapers in cental barcelona). To be a bit more adventuresome without much risk you can try the few tapas restaurants inside either the Boqueria or Santa Catarina market places both of which are walkable from the vicinity you mentioned (they include many vendor stands daytime from which you can also buy TO GO Food & Snacks of an amazing variety). Enjoy.
