Colon, Panama...what to do that’s NOT a canal tour

Have taken a tour of the canal on prior cruise.  Looking for something interesting/fun to do for the day in Colon.  Celebrity’s excursions don’t look particularly interesting nor fun.  Is there a worthy activity or beach to visit  in Colon or should this be a discounted in port spa day?

We took a celebrity bus that visited the town of Portobello. While the town is very small it has a couple of old forts and a beautiful church. Lots of history and we enjoyed the visit. The same tour did go to the old locks for a short visit.

Just back from a Panama NCL cruise. Colon is by far the poorest area i have ever seen. And i

we have done a good number of cruises and visited many areas. We did a NCL tour which was Eco Cruise & Gatun New Locks. It was only four hours and we enjoyed it. Perhaps there is some sort of ship excursion that would bring you through the area canals to see sloths, Cayman, birds, etc.? Here are two pictures of Colon just beyond the port area.
