Rare CineGraphic Posted January 2, 2019 #1 Share Posted January 2, 2019 We just received our cabin assignment on the Nieuw Statendam, 5194. We love the aft location, but I noticed that it’s a connecting room. Can anyone tell me if I should be worried about noise from the connecting doorway? Boytjie Posted January 2, 2019 #2 Share Posted January 2, 2019 We have had connecting rooms on various cruise lines, including HAL, and have not had issues with noise. We have heard noise from cabins next door when we did not have connecting cabins!
Rare ottahand7 Posted January 3, 2019 #3 Share Posted January 3, 2019 I had a connecting room with a dear friend who is 85 on the Konigsdam. We kept the door cracked to allow access in case of emergency. She watched movies most of the night and even with the door cracked the sound was minimal. Rare sambamama Posted January 3, 2019 #4 Share Posted January 3, 2019 The only issue with connecting cabins is that you lose one closet as that is where the door is.
canadianbear Posted January 3, 2019 #5 Share Posted January 3, 2019 Never had a noise issue with a connecting cabin.
Rare Vict0riann Posted January 3, 2019 #6 Share Posted January 3, 2019 On Nieuw Statendam, we had a connecting balcony stateroom on deck 11. We did hear our neighbours on occasion.
Galley Slave Posted January 3, 2019 #7 Share Posted January 3, 2019 We heard everything in the next cabin with a connecting door on the Koningsdam. This included coughing, talking, television, spoons stirring in cups. I would never book a connecting room again!

Regarding loosing closet space, while that may be an issue on another ship, that wouldn't be on this one as the door is closer to the window than the hallway (which is where the closets are located). What you won't get is a couch. You'll only get a chair. Linda R.
Ine Posted January 3, 2019 #12 Share Posted January 3, 2019 It depends on your neighbours! So you never know.

It sounds like the connecting door is right smack in the area you'd be sleeping in, so you're far more likely to hear noise from neighbors than you would if the door was out by the hallway entrance. I'll continue to avoid connecting staterooms at all cost! Thanks for clarifying the location on Koningsdam. Sue/WDW1972
Rare CineGraphic Posted January 3, 2019 Author #14 Share Posted January 3, 2019 I appreciate everyone’s input. It seems that YMMV is the rule here. Although a bit of noise may be a distraction, I’d take a connecting cabin over an obstructed view, any day. I paid for a VH, and ended up with a VD. No worries 🤡
shipgeeks Posted January 3, 2019 #15 Share Posted January 3, 2019 When we have connecting cabins, we hang a couple of garments on the door; that seems to work well as a muffler, "just in case".
