Thank you Larry for trying to help. I was reluctant to post my question because even when you follow all the rules it seems to me that people just hate smokers and nothing will make them happy. Apparently it’s more fun to flame us.

I wasn't trying to flame you.  I am concerned about the dangers of vaping.  My mom, a smoker, died of cancer at 58 yrs.  My dad lived until 88.  He never smoked.  I wish you luck.

Tom: My apologies. I didn’t think you were trying to flame me. My comment was general and I should know enough to stay away from this thread, but I had a question . I will never defend smoking but as long as I follow the rules I don’t think it’s necessary to insult my choices, poor though they be. Sorry, off my soapbox now.

As a smoker I know where your coming from. Been through it many times just trying to get information and follow the rules. Lot of nasty people in this world. It's all about them.

Please  no smoking in  any enclosed area of the ship .  There should be out door deck areas for any kind of legal smoking  .People with Asthma conditions  are heavily impacted  & highly detrimental  to their over all health . Additionally second hand smoke is toxic . There are lots of poisons in  cigarets

I believe HAL allows vaping in cabins.  I have never cruised with HAL, but am considering a Baltic cruise.  This gives me pause.

HAL treats vaping the same as cigarettes!

Does this speak alot to effects of second hand smoke?

A HAL representative recently told me smoking would be discontinued in casinos. But I found that didn’t seem to line up with written policy. What are the most non smoking ships for the sensitive amongst us these days?

So far only 5 ships have NS casinos:  Zuiderdam, Oosterdam, Westerdam, Eurodam and Nieuw Amsterdam.

Oh that’s great. I was hoping for a Nieuw ship being included, but didn’t see it listed in public info.

Unfortunately the two newest ships, Konigsdam and Nieuw Statendam have smoking casinos. HAL has chosen the five ships to have NS casinos mostly because they are designed in a way that casino smoke drifts into entertainment venues, apparently not because HAL is starting a trend of any kind as new ships roll out. If your information that HAL is moving toward all NS casinos is correct, that would be great, but there seems to be little evidence of that by their actions.

She put me on hold to double check, and came back with they will all be NS. Good thing I hesitated until it showed up in print. Which it hasn’t. They have made a lot of progress, but I think I need to wait until I am sure I will not be exposed to drift, or recirculating air.

Looking at a possible cruise on Eurodam return trip Seattle inside passage Alaska for May 2020.  Have sailed on Princess but new to HAL.

Never smoked in the casino on Princess (never spent much time in the casino).  Where are all of the smoking areas on Eurodam and are they inside or outside, and if outside, are they sheltered from the elements?

Thank you.

The only designated smoking area on Eurodam is on deck 9 (Lido) aft, starboard side near the Sea View Pool and Bar. The area is outside and partially protected from the elements.

The casino on Eurodam is 100% smoke free.

Thank you.  I had heard at least one ship had a cigar lounge, The Oak Room, I believe, and was hoping they would have something like that.

Okay!  Going to stay with Princess.

Have a good one!

That would be the Noordam.
It is (was?) the only HAL ship with an indoor, enclosed, smoking lounge. They all should have one.

That's fantastic. My last cruise on Eurodam in January '17, I'm pretty sure the casino was still smoking. I'm on the NA in January, maybe I will even play a few games in the casino now....I avoided them before because of the smoke.

Amazing how people think their rights to keep people from smoking Trumps smokers rights. Smokers pay just as much for the cruise as y'all do . If a smoker is in a designated smoking area he or she should be able to smoke . I agree not in cabins or public areas of the ships. If you get a whiff of smoke too bad stay out of the smoking areas. Smokers do not come into your area.  I have more issues with people that use a  scooters , parking them in the lido buffet  isles while they walk to get their food ,or  set in a chair and eat. making other guests walk around their scooter.  Or unruly children, on some cruises playing tag in the elevators and in the hall ways. Or allowing their small children to snorkel in the hot tub due to the fact that the pool is too deep . And Keep your hands out of the food at the Lido Buffet, HAL provides utensils  to grab the food,

I do not care how many cruises you have been on. You may be able to board, and depart before  me . but if I'am in line at the buffet , Or to enter the theater . You have no right what so ever to crowd in front of me and my wife . There are people aboard ship that had to scrimp and save even to be able to take a cruise  don't be a jerk about ,they and I do not care how  many cruises you have been on !!!!  P.S I do not smoke

I agree with many of your points with the exception of the part I bolded.  Unfortunately, the actual smoke does stray and is not always contained in the smoking area.  And the smell of cigarettes/smoking goes with the smoker and is not pleasant for others in an elevator, for example.

From Holland America

SMOKING POLICY All staterooms, suites, and verandahs are non-smoking. Guests in violation of our policy will be charged a $250 per day cleaning fee. E-cigarettes are permitted in staterooms, otherwise only in designated smoking areas. Except as otherwise noted, cigar and pipe smoking is not allowed anywhere inside the ship; it is only permitted in designated outdoor smoking areas.

Unfortunately many obnoxious smells from other people in elevators are not pleasant, so this is not unique to smokers only (and I don't smoke either).
