Alaska land tours

Recommended Posts

What are your thoughts on Fairbanks Alaska? Is it worthwhile to visit? We are thinking of doing our own land tour and including Denali and an excursion from Anchorage. We have heard that flights into Fairbanks are not great time wise. Will we be missing something if we exclude travel to/from Fairbanks? We won't ever get the chance to see Alaska again but don't want to break the bank on this one trip. Thanks everyone.....we appreciate any tips you may have on what not to miss and the cheapest way to go.

Our favorite place is the Kenai Peninsula.  South of Anchorage, see glaciers, the tidal bore in the Turnagin Arm, whale watching from Seward.  Drive to the peninsula end, the Homer Spit and have the freshest possible Halibut and Chips.

We took a cruise and land trip that ended up in Fairbanks.  We did not find a lot to do but found enough for 2 days.  We went to see the pipeline, which sounds pretty boring but we had never seen it up close so we actually found it pretty interesting.  We went out and toured the Ice Museum, which was a pretty awesome venture.  We also ended up at this cool little carnival/flea market which was mainly for my son, since he had spent two weeks doing grown up stuff with us.  I think we stayed at a SpringHill Suites (sp?).  Not very expensive.
