Transportation from airport to port

We are flying into LAX on 2/22 and leaving from Long Beach Port on 2/23. What is the best way to get from LAX to the port? We arrive at LAX at about 8 p.m. Should we stay near LAX that night and go to the port in the morning or go to Long Beach that night and stay at a hotel there on Friday night. 

 

When we return we fly out of Long Beach. I'm assuming we can uber from the port?

Normally I would say go to LB that night.  But you're sailing on Saturday so the traffic won't be all that bad in the AM.  If it's a long flight you are coming in on I would stay near LAX and go to the port on Saturday.  We have stayed at the Hilton LAX a few times mostly when we have an early flight.  Downside staying near LAX isn't a location you will want to go sightseeing where if you go out to LB then you might on Saturday AM.  You can UBER from the port to LGB.
