Viking Budapest to Nuremberg .... partial refund ????

Sailed with Viking on their Romantic Danube/Christmas Markets cruise from B'pest (25/11) to Nuremberg (1/12).

Low water levels meant 3 ships were utilised (in B'pest just to sleep on for 1st night).

We were advised pre cruise of 1 change.

Acknowledging that river levels are beyond their control Viking offered a 25% of cruise payment as a credit for future river/ocean cruising with Viking to be taken with 12 months ....... they confirmed this in a post cruise email saying a voucher would  be issued.

Found this to be totally useless to us.

1 We have already booked Cruises/trips for the next 12 -18 months. Similarly a lot of these cruises are already heavily booked.

2 Overseas travel insurance becomes too expensive due to insurers age restrictions.

3 Not sure 25% is a universally acceptable offering based on some passengers comments.

Would have been more acceptable to receive an immediate 25% refund.

Had written to Viking advising them of this ..... zero response (or voucher) to date.

Anyone else have similar experience with Viking "refund" offers ??

During "normal' conditions I'm sure Viking would offer and provide a wonderful experience.

Cheers Maureen & Tom

Dear @Shiraz49,

We’re happy to be in receipt of your feedback, though we regret to hear of your disappointment in your recent experience with us, both onboard and post-cruise.

Nevertheless, we wanted to take this moment to clarify that our Future Cruise Vouchers have a 12-month book-by date—so you need only book a future cruise within that time frame, not travel. Additionally, though we recognize you have reached out to us previously, we do encourage you to email us your booking information at TellUs@vikingcruises.com if you still haven’t received your voucher following your initial message so that we may investigate further.

We hope to hear from you, Shiraz49, and wish you a pleasant weekend.

Best regards,
Viking Cruises

Thanks Viking but of little use/benefit to us, as stated travel insurance costs become prohibitive with age so overseas travel apart from the next 2 covered by a 12 month multi trip policy will in all probability be our last.

Previous compensation by Holland America, due to missed port caused by windy conditions (not their fault) were met with an IMMEDIATE CASH refund before the cruise was even completed .... great customer service unlike a useless Viking offer ......

I have friends who sailed in September and have a similar offer. They don't think they will use it either as they don't want to chance "having a bus ride" instead of a river cruise. I agree in your situation, a refund would probably bring more good will towards you. We all know Viking has the cash as they are asking for payment a year in advance!

Does Viking Ocean cruise near you or in an area you would want to go? I believe the voucher is good for those sailings also. I know that the flight from your area to Europe or US is very cost prohibitive and quite the jaunt.
