Have been researching tours in Hong Kong.  Wife has mobility issues so walking tours are out.  Will be staying at The Kowloon Hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui.  Have more or less settled on 2 day Hop On Hop Off pass to see the highlights of the city.  Does anyone have experience with Hop On Hop Off touring or can offer alternatives?

We were in Hong Kong for a week last March, DW has mobility problems and uses a rolator. We went all over the place, on the HOHO bus left rollator downsatirs and climbed to the top. Underground is very user friendly, staff and other passengers always willing to help, lot of lifts. Even made up to the Peak via the tram. Also taxis are very cheap.

If you intend to travel by public transport check out the Octopus Card.

Thanks for the feedback.  It reinforces our thought that the HOHO bus is a good way to see the highlights.  We are aware of the Octopus card and intend to get one (two?).  Can you confirm that one card covers us both or do we need one for each of us?

We bought two, but then we tend also to separate -- I for shopping, DH for extended picture taking.

When we left HK, I went [at the airport] to the "Trains customer service" counter and got back the deposit and all that was left on both cards.

Cheap things to do on your own is ride the Star Ferry across the harbour and ride the Ding Ding Tram on HK island all the way from one end to another.  Sit upstairs at the front if you can handle the stairs and see the sites from above.

Both are cheap to ride and easy if you have an Octopus card as G.M.T. recommended.  We go a lot since my husband is from there so we too keep our Octopus cards and just reload at 7-11 as needed.

Yes I have done the Hop On Off Bus and it is worth the price and you will see a lot. The two day pass also includes a ticket for Star Ferry. It can be used to explore on Hong Kong Island, you can take it out to Stanley which is very nice.

You need one Octopus card for each of you. For those over 65, make sure you get the senior concession card. I'd keep the card for future use instead of returning it.

As long as you use it within two years or it will zero out.

Star ferry is so cheap. It's is literally pennies (about 25p) which is probably why it's included with the HOHO buses.

If you do have an octopus card you can bypass the ticket buying queue at the bottom of the peak tram stop. And sit on the right hand of the tram going up.
