F19810 Posted January 30, 2019 #1 Share Posted January 30, 2019 Forgive my ignorance (I come from the time of travelers checks!), on a few threads I have read about using mobile phone payment. Are they talking about Apple Pay? I thought that Apple Pay was not common in Europe?
napoxoguk Posted February 3, 2019 #2 Share Posted February 3, 2019 I'd say it's a lot more widespread and common than in the US. And I mean A LOT. In St. Petersburg, for instance, they typically accept ApplePay, GooglePay, and SamsungPay. Also, most POS terminals accept "tap to pay" credit and debit cards (visa wavepay, I forgot what MasterCard's alternative is called).
Desdichado62 Posted February 3, 2019 #3 Share Posted February 3, 2019 I don't know how widespread it is in Sweden but I have seen claims that all payment terminals within the European Union is supposed to accept mobile payment before the end of 2019 or 2020. I personally uses mostly bank card (chip and pin) and sometimes Swish.
kaisatsu Posted February 3, 2019 #4 Share Posted February 3, 2019 It’s not especially common in Norway, but it’s started to increase a lot in the last year. Tap payments are also becoming more common for small purchases, but you usually need to use your PIN for purchases over 200 NOK, and the chip still has to be used every so often for security. Danish viking Posted February 4, 2019 #5 Share Posted February 4, 2019 Tap payment is also very common in Denmark, here the limit for pin less payment is 350 kroner. Apple Pay is also a more common thing and I think it works with most Credit card readers as long as they accept tap payment.
