Cab to San Diego zoo?

We're a party of 4 adults, and we're thinking about taking a taxi and splitting the fare to the San Diego Zoo rather than taking the ship's tour.  Approximately what would the taxi fee be?

It's not far...around $20, maybe $25, before tip. You could get an Uber estimate at uberestimate.com, then double it for a safe estimate of what a taxi would cost.

$20 is probably a little low.  I pay $20 with tip for taxi from airport to Gaslamp.  Cruise terminal to zoo is probably 1/2 - 3/4 mile further.   I think you would be better served doing your own transport than the ships as you will get there faster and on your own schedule.  As a suggestion so as to avoid the taxi crush just outside the terminal I would walk a little ways down toward seaport village and look for taxis near the Embassy Suites or even hail an UBER a little ways away from the port proper.

Thanks for the replies.  Since there are 4 of us we were pretty sure that taxi fare would be less expensive than the ship's tour, but more importantly we can make our own schedule.

I totally agree, you will be at the zoo by the time the ships shuttle leaves the port.
