Rare sid_9169 Posted February 6, 2019 Author #101 Share Posted February 6, 2019 On the ground now in Nawlins' ... In a cab heading to the intercontinental hotel... I can only assume that they're not going to let me check in, so I'm hoping to drop my bag, and go get something in my belly.

JinxyB Posted February 6, 2019 #103 Share Posted February 6, 2019 (edited) Following...I read one of your reviews when you were on a Carnival ship and really enjoyed it. You seem like an interesting person to hang out with. Going on Breakaway in August, so I’m looking forward to your review! Have an awesome time in NOLA! Went to Mardi Gras years ago while I was in college and let’s just say I’m glad there were no cell phones/social media back then!! 🤔 Edited February 6, 2019 by JinxyB
Rare sid_9169 Posted February 6, 2019 Author #104 Share Posted February 6, 2019 Bags are dropped off at the hotel, and I'm out on foot. I ended up a bit turned around due to many of the streets not having signage... So, I actually ended up at a place that planned on stopping by later, Maypop. A fusion restaurant, and voted best new restaurant of 2017. The first morsel of food since 7:30 this morning. Fried oysters, and some kind of spicy curry amuse bouche... 1
Slowingdog Posted February 6, 2019 #105 Share Posted February 6, 2019 Following along as we are on the Breakaway cruise after yours. You had responded to my post asking about whether the public Vibe bar is open for sail away. If you are near it I would really appreciate it if you could let me know if it's open as we are trying to find a good meet up spot for a large group of people at sail away. Thanks, and have a great trip!

How is it? Merils is tasty but more fine dining. We like to go around opening time and snack and drink cocktails. Johnny Sanchez might be fun. We love the sandwiches and pie at Cochon Butcher. Maybe you still have time to catch the $0.25 drink specials at Commander’s Palace 🙂
Rare sid_9169 Posted February 6, 2019 Author #108 Share Posted February 6, 2019 Hot chicken vindaloo, with a fried egg on top. .. Like I said, fusion. Next I've got to find me something a little more "Nawlins'"
Rare sid_9169 Posted February 6, 2019 Author #109 Share Posted February 6, 2019 The person that was sitting at the bar next to me ended up not finishing their fancy bread that looked really good, so I inherited it... 2
Rare sid_9169 Posted February 6, 2019 Author #110 Share Posted February 6, 2019 Now that I've got some food in me, it's time for the first adult beverage of the day. Crimson cooler, with mezcal, hibiscus, jalapeno, and hellfire bitters... Smokey and spicy... 3

Rare sid_9169 Posted February 6, 2019 Author #112 Share Posted February 6, 2019 Still getting the lay of the land here... I walked all the way down to the Julia street cruise terminal to check it out. Hoping my hotel room is ready soon so I can unburden myself of this backpack containing all of my cash, passport, and other valuables... 3
Rare sid_9169 Posted February 6, 2019 Author #113 Share Posted February 6, 2019 I'm going to estimate that I've walked about six or seven miles so far... I was finally able to get checked into my room and rest for a minute. I have to admit that the room is pretty nice. I paid for it several months ago with my side job money... Too bad I'll only be in it to sleep for one night considering what I paid for it. And, the view from the window on the 14th floor... 2

Rare sid_9169 Posted February 6, 2019 Author #115 Share Posted February 6, 2019 And, I'm still walking... (Luckily when I got to the hotel, they provided me with a better map than my self drawn version. I believe that people have stolen most of the street signs here as souvenirs. Rare sid_9169 Posted February 6, 2019 Author #116 Share Posted February 6, 2019 Still walking... And, that brings us to now... I'm going to take my shoes off to let my feet breath for a bit before heading out for another looonnng walk...

Rare sid_9169 Posted February 6, 2019 Author #119 Share Posted February 6, 2019 The patch has been installed, and since the review started out at a tiki bar, I made my way to the French Quarter to Latitude 29. Sort of a dive / tiki bar... Of course it can only be judged by their Mai Tai, so that's what I went with. A couple of pics from my walk from the hotel to the French Quarter...
