Freeport going "Half Moon Cay Plus"

I think the real question will be if the roads in East Grand Bahama can accommodate buses between the city of Freeport and the new terminal - there just aren’t many people of that side of the island. Carnival can still sell excursions to places like UNEXSO (dolphin experience) and the Grand Lucayan, while maintaining the “private island” vibe for those who don’t wish to go into town.

While I generally hate these "sanitized" port experiences, IMO Freeport is the most POS port in Carnival's itineraries. The port area is boring with the same chain places as every other port, there's not much else to do without taking an excursion, and even the excursions aren't great compared to other ports. At least with this new thing you can get off the ship and chill at a nice beach.

What do you consider a good excursion?  We loved the Kayak excursion we took with Carnival, and there are many things you can do from a Freeport stop if you use public transportation.  I agree that the port area itself isn't much, but to say the spot is the worst does it a disservice.  What I didn't like was the timing we were there (7am-1pm) so we didn't feel we had the time to explore some of the nicer spots the second time we went.

One of the things I like about Freeport is there are industries other than tourism, allowing for better roads and not the stark poverty that we've seen in some ports.
