Where's your quiet place onboard?

I've been doing this for years.

On the Emerald Princess I always went back to Adagio one of the greatest Italian piano bars at sea.

Found me a hole by myself, no one was ever back there, great mojito's, Olive boats are awesome. Adagio is at the very back of the Emerald Princess across from Sabatini's, everyone else was at a show, casino, muts I went to Adagio, an environment that's unmatched.

The Grand Princess I used to go back to the back upper deck, great outdoor covered veranda, plush furniture, right after dinner. Very private, secluded, few cruisers back there. This was the Colorado part of the ship it was when I was back there, no problemo. Very chilled, vibe was awesome.

The Golden Princess I was on the Golden Princess 2001 Inaugural at that time this ship was off the chain, the OLD Wheelhouse bar on the Golden Princess, it was dark and VERY comfortable, tons of great place's to get a drink find a hole and do nothing but be by myself, did it many a time.

The Caribbean Princess I stayed in the Vista Lounge after the Platinum/Elite Cocktail party every day(Imagine that!). Cocktail party started at 5pm every afternoon, food was AWESOME drinks were out of this world, service was exemplary, atmosphere after everybody left at 7pm was KILLER!! There weren't a lot of people there anyway I just stayed went to the back and sat in a HUGE booth by myself. My waiter brought me anything I wanted it was COZY and dark and I could see the ocean through the windows, there's NOTHING like that on earth or I would have already done it already and told you about it so you can go and do it.

Nice posting on the solo board again it's been awhile I almost forgot about you guys, I'm just kidding, NOTHING like solo cruising. Take care Todd

How nice to hear others not wanting piped music.  When I have complained about the incessant music, i have been told “it is what the passengers want”.  They have even started piping it in to the buffet area!  The promenade is a good idea, I will try that out.   I think the people who just want peace and quiet, a good book and the sea for company must continue to complain.  One day they might get the message.  I think, once on the ship, writing to the production manager may bear fruit.

As the original poster, thanks all for contributing specific spaces on specific ships.

Tablelamp, it seems that everywhere we go there has to be a bombardment of sounds and visuals. I hate the TVs they have in airport gate waiting areas.  If there is no volume, I can manage to sit to avoid seeing it, but if volume, I have to search out other waiting areas.  I have started to always carry ear buds and I have white noise on my phone, but I resent that I have to use these to get some peace. However, I do realize I am becoming more and more the minority.  This leads me to believe that even if we complain, it might not bear fruit, but worth trying.

I am scheduled for another cruise 20 days Dubai to Venice, with 10 ship days.  I originally booked an inside cabin, but the price dropped, so upgraded to an ocean view and still money back in my pocket. I don't normally like the beds separated, but I would be willing to do this so I can set up a seating area on the bed, or with the room chair in front of the window to be able to watch life go by. It appears the cabin windows drop to seating height so good views.  If I run out of external quiet spaces, at least I can arrange something in my cabin.

Good luck on that.

I filled out a ‘First impressions’ card on the last P and O ship I was on in June, complaining about the music.  I did get a telephone call from the production Manager who said that some of the young technicians often “cranked up the sound”.  Following my complaint it did get a little better ‘some of the time’.  I do like to be outside but the trouble with the promenade deck is that there is no waiter service and I do like a glass of wine to enjoy with my book.

The trouble with Promenade deck is being stepped on or run over. It's great out there at night when no one is out there, my favorite, you have to take your own fishbowl of Chardonnay though, like you said no wait staff out there.

It's a personal policy I don't go anywhere near promenade without my fishbowl, sounds like you don't either. Nice!!

Don't settle for that FIND yourself a couple of spots on the ship in common areas where you can hide. I've always had luck on the ships I have sailed on with Lido deck AFT anytime after 5pm on(really earlier than that), nobody ever back there no quack music, just you, your fishbowl and the ships wake. Have a great cruise.

Don’t settle for sitting in your cabin, you might as well be at home.  Wrap up, take your fishbowl (in a flask) and request the music be turned down.  It does work, if you keep on at them.   Contact the  Production Manager.  You are paying, so don’t put up with it.

It would never occur to me that my choice should decide what effects several thousand other people.  I certainly would say I don't like it, but I would never persist to badger them into making my choice the ship's choice.

Oh, hanging out in my cabin isn't 'settling' for me. I'm the introvert that needs the solitude of closed doors frequently. I also enjoy hours reading while in my jammies after ordering room service and multiple cups of coffee. The fact that I can have it with a view makes me happy. Having an inside cabin was 'settling' in order to get the itinerary I wanted in my budget.

I will balance it with time in public spaces whether lightly or heavily populated. With and without fishbowl (or flask).

If I find a perfect place without others, or few to complain, I may broach the subject of asking to leave that space music free during certain hours. Particularly if others also seem to be readers. Then I am advocating for others as well.

If they played popular classics I shouldn’t mind at all. It’s re relentless mindless music that drives me up the wall.  I mostly cruise ‘round trips’ from Southampton, England with a maximum of 2,000 people.  I’ve never been on a ship with several thousand.  Are the larger ships noisier?

The couple of cruises I've been on solo, I kind of fantasized beforehand about reading my book in the library or some other nook with my glass of wine, but turns out, I really love just curling up in my bed reading!

Cunard? I found it easier to find fellow readers there. Often a bar along the side that you could zone out the background sound, or it was lovely live harp music or a trio.

2000 is about my size limit too. The bigger ships have a lot of bells, whistles and entertainments that seem to cater to a different clientele. I have been led to u derstand a more active fun loving group that want variety and enterrainment. Of course that is a generalization, but we have to kmow that more people is going to be more sound. Small or nonexistent  libraries sometimes only open at odd hours.

... Most recently on the Carnival Pride there was the Sunset Garden on deck 3 forward- I never saw anyone hanging out there...

Deck 3 on the Carnival Freedom was one of my favorite places last year. For some reason there were a lot of people on one side but not the other. I think I was on the starboard side.

Its disappointing that they only have 4 chairs out on the whole long deck.   This seems to be a trend and I wonder why.

You might have hit on the reason why there were more people on the other side: more chairs. I don't remember though. At any rate, I was more a fan of the benches farther down because they were away from the doors. Sometimes there is a trade-off between comfort and solitude on Carnival. The observation deck on Deck 10 only had a bench, and except for the first day when we were leaving Galveston, it stayed pretty empty a lot of the time. This picture was taken on day 2 of the cruise.
