Cabins that sleep 5 on ships that sail from Australia?

Hi everyone.   

I have seen forum posts regarding this topic that relate to US or Europe based ships.  Does anyone know if any of the ships that sail from Australia have cabins that will sleep 5?  We are looking at South Pacific cruises and want to know if this is an option or if we will have to book 2 cabins or a much larger suite.

The only cabins which sleep more than 4 in one cabin are suites.

For example Princess has their family suite and Grand Class ships.

I believe Royal Caribbean has some larger suites however i'm not sure.

There are not categories lower than suites that hold more than 4 as far as i'm aware.

Norwegian Jewel has a family cabin - they sail Aus in the summer months. Have friends with extended family who have booked these a couple of times and love this ship. More $ than two cabins, less than a large suite. Check it out anyway. And I would be very surprised if Ovation of the Seas didn’t have a cabin for five 😉 and the best ship for kids. (Not too sure about really little kids tho 🙄)

Really believe your best bet is to research yourself:

Carnival, P&O Australia, Princess, - here all year.

Royal Carribean, Norwegian and Holland America here every summer.

Variety of other lines pass by with offers but I think the regulars will better suit your needs. Good luck and enjoy your cruising.

Just read these - none of these ships sail in Australia, unfortunately. Most of them are US based. Closest is the Norwegian Jewel - but if you want that family room you need to book as soon as the cruise is released - again, nothing beats doing your own research 😉

On Pacific Dawn there are interconnecting cabins. We were in one of these on one cruise. The interconnecting door is opposite where the fridge is located. With this option you are paying full price for the first two people in each cabin (as you would with any two cabins), but there is the advantage of being able to be with the family without going into the corridor. An advantage over one larger cabin is having two bathrooms.

You won’t be able to book for 5 online, however the CruiseLine or TA will be able to find accommodation for 5 on most of the major lines in Aus.  The only issue is they sell out quickly, so the earlier you plan the better.  Enjoy!

Thank you everyone.  I know that interconnecting cabins and suites are all options, just wanted to know if the ships that frequent our shores do have cabins for 5.  I understand I need to call to check availability and to book.

Family cabins aren’t advertised,you need to call a agent or the cruise line. I would suggest a specialist cruise agent.

on Royal Caribbean voyager an radiance class has family cabins at the front of the ships.

 Ovation has a family connecting at the front of the bump mid ship.Its 3 cabins that’s set up like a house,with a junior suite as the main area.The other two are another balcony and a interior cabin.Also there’s a grand suite that can be added to that.

😂🤣 that one on Ovation would be an economical cabin Chilli - particularly if the OP is a mum, Dad & 3 kids 🏦💰💸💵

Bellie5 - the common theme seems to be that we don’t know, which means that in our waters they are going to be very rare.

Good luck with the search, there will be an option, don’t give up, cruising is wonderful particularly for families.

Thank you @Chiliburn.  I do think that the 3 connected rooms would be way out of my price range but good to know if extended family are travelling with us.

Is it still Ruby Princess you are looking at in Feb 2020?

Looking at a Princess booking, you will need to ring them for more than four in a booking anyway, little clue, try and ring before 9 in the morning and you might get the Aussie office ( been hard to get lately).

Probably TMI, but we are booked for our first cruise in Feb 2020 in a group of 18. My 13 year old (eldest) will be in a cabin with his uncle and cousin. So, cabin issues solved there. I am looking beyond to our next, and researching options, of course. 

 

RC have confirmed they do have cabins for 5 sailing from Australia, I just have to call to confirm availability.  Princess has not responded yet and I can’t find a contact email for Carnival so will call when I am more firm on which cruise. And prob after our first to make sure everyone wants a second. 🙂

It is currently Golden Princess and will be transferred in October 2020 to P&O along with Star Princess a Year Later in 2021.

However, the five berth cabins are window suites.

I’m pretty sure the family verandahs on Celebrity Solstice sleep 5, but there are not many of these cabins onboard and they do book out very early. I’ve also read that Carnival Splendor has 5 berth cabins, but I’m not sure if that will still be the case once it relocates down our way.  

 

Speaking of Carnival, do price up adjoining cabins with them as you may be surprised how they don’t cost too much more than one cabin.  Plus you end up with the benefit of more space and 2 bathrooms.  

I’ve been pricing up Carnival cruises a lot lately as we are keen to travel with some friends (3 different family groups of four, all of whom are on a budget). I’ve noticed that even though comparatively the cost for Carnival is pretty fair, unlike most other cruiselines, Carnival’s current discount for third and forth passengers is not that great.  In fact there was one particular cruise where I sent my friends quotes for 2 cabins (2 people in each) as it was cheaper by a few hundred dollars than an equivalent 4 person cabin.  Go figure.

They’re absolutely double the cost if you’re only pricing up 2 people, but not if you’re booking for 4 people (or 5 in the case of the OP).  

In the majority of cases 1 cabin is always going to be the cheaper option, but as stated in the rest of my post, Carnival doesn’t always provide much of a discount for the 3rd and 4th passenger.  This means 2 cabins is not always that much more expensive than 1.  In one case, I  actually found 2 cabins (for a family of 4) to be cheaper.  Admittedly they weren’t adjoining as those weren’t showing as available, but it was two cabins none the less.

I can’t find the exact example I was referring to, but just as another example:

 

6 Jan 2020 Carnival Splendor

1 ocean view guarantee for 4 people = AU$6096

2 ocean view guarantees with 2 people in each = AU$6196

 

In other words, $100 more for an extra cabin.  

 

I get that guarantees aren’t always ideal for families as you could end up split, but just using this as an example to point out that it’s worth pricing up 2 cabins just incase.

Thank you @oskarNZ for your advice.  I did not know about the Celebrity cruises or the Splendor potentially having cabins for 5. I will always compare the price of two cabins to the 5 person option (if available). My eldest child is only 13, so at this point it would need to be two adjoining cabins but still may be cheaper than the larger cabin options for 5. 

 

Does anyone know if there is a charge for having connected cabins?
