Could anyone explain these figures

Hi,just back from  a princess cruise and we had put money in to our onboard account in units of $125 Aud

When we got our first statement each unit of $125 became $139.10

That doesn't make sense. If they made an error and assumed you were depositing US$, it would have become around AUD $160. Just be happy that they seem to have given you an unexpected windfall.

Yes I know it doesn’t make sense to me but thought someone may know,it was a nice windfall,paid for my soda and more package plus

I think it must have been a computer glitch.

Sounds like they converted $US to $AUD at a rate of there own choosing.

When no conversion was needed.

Wouldn’t this conversion be unusual for Sea Princess seeing it is actually based in Aus and is all Australian dollars? Or do I have this wrong?

Or do they still use US$ on this ship during some sailings / in the casino etc?

Yes - The Sea Princess uses all AUD.

 

I typed my first response assuming it was an Australian-based ship and that turns out to be correct. I made the suggestion that there could have been a currency conversion applied when none was required, but the figures don't work for that scenario.

Great result for you, I cannot explain it, the only thing I thought of was possibly a currency conversion which was not required or a discount/bonus being applied.

They might have calculated it as though paid credit in Singapore Dollar or New Zealand or even canadian dollar.

The exact same thing happened to me - I sailed on the Golden Princess which left on 22 December, and I put some on board credit on and it showed as $139.10, so I called Princess and they had a look at the booking and they could only see the correct amount of the $125.00. They had no explanation for it. So I checked my credit card and it went through as the $125.00 (Aussie dollars). Once on-board I checked what credit I had and it was the $125.00. So it must be a glitch in their system somehwere.

I was lucky that mine stayed the same then.
