I went on Countess - very nice

MV Cunard Ambassador was planned as one of a class of eight smaller cruise ships for the US charter airline Overseas National Airways. At the same time, the Cunard Line was moving into the cruise market because the increasing popularity of international flights meant that its transatlantic passenger service was losing money.

Overseas National Airways ran into financial troubles and was forced to abandon the project.
Cunard took it on,  reducing the order to two ships, Cunard Adventurer (1971) and Cunard Ambassador (1972)

The two ships were less successful than intended. Cunard Adventurer was soon sold and became Sunward II and later Triton.

Cunard Ambassador was withdrawn from Cunard service on September 12, 1974 after a fire. There were no passengers on board and no fatalities but, after being towed to Key West, the ship was declared a total loss.

Shortly after the sale of Cunard Adventurer and the fire on Cunard Ambassador, Cunard planned two more new ships, Cunard Countess and Cunard Conquest, later changed to Cunard Princess. The design incorporated many features of the Adventurer and Ambassador including a similar sleek profile and angular funnel and the white-painted hull.

The ships were marketed as Cunard Crown Cruises

The Countess was transferred to Royal Olympic Cruises 1998, renamed Olympic Countess; sold to Majestic International Cruises 2004, renamed Ocean Countess, chartered to Louis Cruise Lines as Ruby during 2007; retired in 2012; caught fire in 2013 at Chalkis, Greece while laid up; sold to a Turkish scrapyard and scrapped in 2014.

The Princess was chartered to Star Lauro Cruises in 1995; sold to MSC Cruises in 1995, renamed Rhapsody; sold in 2009 and renamed Golden Iris still sailing from Haifa on Med cruises.
