Being escorted aboard

Yes, most crew does not know.  I am talking about the steward for your cabin when you get to your section.  I have been on many b2b.   Our person will call us by name.  One time I wanted to show my husband the grand suite since we had it booked for a long cruise a few months later.   We were not in there 1 minute and the steward came in and asked if we needed help.   I told him the truth and he said no problem.

Most people are honest and would never do that.   What is the big deal with holding on to your luggage while at lunch or for a hour?

We board with all our luggage & don't appreciate having to lug it around to the DR or buffet when just dropping it off in the room works well for us.

Of course if you feel carrying it around for an hour or so isn't a problem then you'll be fine.

Sitting on Deck 5 sipping hot chocolate and about ready to walk off. Having a few minutes, I thought I’d do the math.

Though I’m sure the numbers vary slightly, our RS told us he’s responsible for 18 cabins. This means he needs to strip, clean and make ready for the next bunch of pax all of his cabins between 8AM and 1 PM. That gives him only between 15 and 20 minutes on average to do each cabin.

Our RS knocked on our door at about 7:45. He already had beads of perspiration on his face.

Based on all of this, it occurs to me that on future cruises we will wait patiently clear of the room corridors until 1PM.

You are considerate of the hard-working stewards who have too much to get done, and then have to smile and be friendly and courteous for the new passengers who need more hangers, extra pillows, mini-bar change-ups, "where is the water I had ordered?", …..

Me, I am happy to bring my carry-on bags to lunch, and drop them in the cabin sometime after the "cabins are now available" announcement (which usually takes place in the middle of my meal).  I am happy to be on board, at a nice meal, relaxing, even if I have my carry-on bag at my feet.

I think you have gotten way off topic.

This post is about suite passengers being escorted from check in to their cabins. Being a suite passenger, they will take you to your cabin and if you would prefer to go right to lunch, they will take you to the club class dining area where they will be more than happy to put your luggage against the wall.  Or your escort will volunteer to take it to your cabin for you.  Yes,  most will hang on to their carry on since it is full of valuables.

I think your right. Full suites do things differently than regular cabins & perhaps their cabins are already prepared before they board.

I was making the assumption that all cabins fell into the same category.

Nope.  In December on the Ruby Princess we walked into the elevator after getting our security picture taken, and the elevator operator announced that cabins would not be available until 1:00 pm.  We had lunch and decided to walk to our cabin at about 12:45.  In the after elevator lobby on the C Deck there were a few fellow passengers waiting.  The fire doors were closed.  A few minutes before 1:00 a Princess officer opened the fire doors.  My wife and I walked to our suite.

Trying to keep on topic, obviously, we were not escorted.

This was out of Los Angeles.

On our next cruise, in April, we've booked a balcony cabin.  So, I will not be able to see if the escort thing has changed.  However, we do have a suite in September on the Royal Princess, and, so, I will get another chance.  😉

Good assumption. You are absolutely correct insofar as the time all are able to access cabins upon boarding.

I am going off topic with this but curious.

I have never talked to anyone who carries all their luggage on  board with them.   Does it all fit through the xray scanner?  People ask once in a while and the replies normally say it must fit through the scanner.      We have had some of the most rude porters where they would not pick up any of our luggage until we tipped them.  Or comment "if you want it to make it on the ship, you better give me a nice tip".     Last time we did have a very nice gentleman who took ours and put them on the cart.   He started to walk away and I went after him with a tip.   I just hate when they bully us for a tip.

But more than that, I like to get unpacked and to get the suitcases unpacked and under the bed and everything put away before we start partying!!

How many suitcases do you take?

thanks

Basically if it will fit an airport scanner your right saw the measurements recently I’ll try and find them.

how many suitcases?? How long is the cruise. We usually take one or two suitcases between us, and a carry on each with electronics, medications and perhaps one change of clothes, on a long cruise I may have a wheel bag with Camera gear. We normally check the main bag(S) my carry on hooks over the handle of the camera bag so I can wheel that beside the wheelchair, Mrs Gut carries her carryon (or sometimes takes one on wheels) and her handbag with all the paperwork in it.

We always travel with one suitcase each + I have a backpack (no matter how long a trip) for all electronics and important items. Our suitcase measures 19 inches wide & fits through their scanner with a few inches on both sides.

Of course you're expected to lift them onto the table yourself & push them into the scanner. If you require a porter for help, this method is not the way to go so checking the larger bags is best.

Back to the fire doors closed.....we have never seen that occur, at least on the CB last Nov/Dec or on the Regal Jan/Feb.

I could understand them wanting to finish the cabins but how could they possibly close off the decks to the people who remain on the ship doing a B2B and expect them not to have access to their cabins during turnaround?

It doesn't sound logical.

CB in June, Grand in January, the doors were shut.

Either way, I hope we get escorted on the CB next January and the Enchanted the following November.  It was a nice perk.

I agree, 3 times on the CB last year the latest being Nov and the fire doors were always closed.

For some the rules just don't apply.

You probably mean the central elevators which most people use.

You should have walked forward or aft & they probably would have been open.

On the CB last Nov/Dec they were open. I guess they changed their way of doing things.

Aft elevators last week in the Grand. Shut tight until exactly 1:00.

We’re not platinum or elite, just mere ruby levelers and we were escorted onboard in shackles.....just kidding.

We cruised on the Grand from SFO last December and had a suite. As soon as we checked in at the kiosk, we had a steward escort us all the way to our suite which we thought was a nice touch.

Prior to that cruise ( December 2018)  the last time we sailed was 3 years prior in a Grand suite, on the Grand but no escort.

Maybe It’s the ship adding a nice perk.
