medallion cruises -optional cruise card

It's a good thing too because these Medallions and the systems that read them are not perfect yet. Both my wife and I had issues with medallion and stateroom access. It would just say "Verifying Access...". Could have been the issue with the tablet for the door access but the regular card worked fine when you tapped it.

Nobody knew what the deal was or how to fix it. The medallion worked for everything except the door.

We stopped caring about the issue after day 1 and just used the cards.

on the ships that are converting to the medallion, is there a option of getting the

"old fashion" cruise card.

The 'old fashioned' card is dead!. The new cards have chips in them and respond to the portals and readers the same way that the medallion does. So your choice is to use the Medallion or use your card like the medallion, the only difference is it will not recognize you from further away than 1 inch.

On the newer ships you need something to put in the slot to turn the lights on.  Cruise card does a perfect job.

If they are only giving out medallions, what are they expecting we use?

Ripping a piece of the flyers?   Seems tacky ....

Feb 3 sailing of Regal Princess there was a card in the slot when we arrived.  If the medallion works the way it should, you won't need that card in the slot.  The medallion will tell the light god that you are in the room, and the lights come on.  Sorry to say it didn't work that way.

You read my mind.  Will we still be able to get hard copy of patters?  Will our cards work the same way?

The "old fashion" card is gone. On those ships, you get the OM and a card. The card and the OM are "chipped". The one in the card is very low power. The OM will open cabin lock from 10-15 feet away, the card has to be placed on the cabin screen itself to register. The card is not powerful enough to be picked up by the sensors around the ship.

Regal ONLY issued Medallions last week (departing 10 Feb), although card was still available for those that might have wanted it.  Medallions worked fine.

Security at many ports still want to see a cruise card to get back onboard after a port stop.

I’ve had security tell me no when I’ve held my OM up for their inspection insisting on seeing a cruise card.

How does issuing Medallions ONLY work here?

We'll be on the Regal in about a month. Received the notice from Princess that we can get the OM by mail after uploading information and images. We will be doing this but my concern is the issue of port security where a cruise card is necessary to show to get through (local security, not to get back on the ship). Has anyone dealt with this? thanks

Wasn't an issue on the 4  Western stops.

No issues encountered last week.  Worked smoothly, as cruise line seemed to work that part out with local authorities.

How does the OM work in the casinos?   Do you still need a cruise card for the machines to set up an account?

There is a clearly marked sensor on the machine for Medallion access.
