Rare Travelw Posted February 26, 2019 #2 Share Posted February 26, 2019 We did this tour in January with Isaira tours. There were 4 of us and it was a private tour, I believe the cost was $51 per person plus a tip. There was a driver and a guide, so neede to tip both. The tour started with cable car to top of the mountain, a wait of about 30 minutes here due to it being popular. The view from the top was really nice plus many sites to see up there. In addition the tour included stops at a chocolate factory, rum distillery, Amber museum and city tour. The tour was about 5.5 hours long. One thing, be prepared to walk a long way to meet the tour guide, you must exit the cruise grounds to meet private tours and it is a long walk, about 15 minutes, at least for our group. Loonbeam Posted February 26, 2019 #4 Share Posted February 26, 2019 We did the same with Marysol tours and were very happy with them as well, pricing about the same as above. Only issue was the longer than expected hike to meet the guides as they don't allow private guides in the port area...

SAPMAN Posted April 1, 2019 #6 Share Posted April 1, 2019 We did a similar (without cable car) from Shore Excursioneer. $35 pp for 4 hours. I would rate it a 2. First, all private excursions have to walk out of the port secure area to the main road. It is about 15 minutes hot walk once off the ship - and back to ship as well. Second, the rum factory is modern, but on lunch break and nothing running. The amber museum is not very good and a lot of "selling" going on. The main square is nice and decent church, but we only had about 20 minutes there. The cigar place is a desk inside a souvenir shop with 1 man rolling cigars. Van was air conditioned, but mic did not work so those in back could not hear well. I would have much preferred skipping the Amber Factory and drop 10 minutes off the cigar place and spending the extra 45 minutes on the square poking around. Orch at Sea Posted April 2, 2019 Author #7 Share Posted April 2, 2019 Thanks for the information Sapman. I think we will just take a ship excursion, it's easier.
DFWGUYZ Posted April 28, 2019 #8 Share Posted April 28, 2019 Rene Robles with R.V. Private Tours & Taxi gave us a wonderful, tailored schedule to our specifications. He had us scheduled for the cable car at Mount Isabel de Torres earlier in the morning due to the afternoons producing clouds up its height. A full day of exploration at our request. Awesome job. cbCRR Posted April 29, 2019 #9 Share Posted April 29, 2019 I tried to book it for my June cruise, but the cable car won't be working due to scheduled maintenance so they canceled my excursion. Looking for a similar without the cable car.
