Silver Shadow Transformation

As we all know, RCL increased Silversea's originally planned budget for Silver Shadow's dry dock this year when they closed on their deal to acquire two-thirds of Silversea last summer.  I've heard RCL increased it by about threefold from Silversea's original $4M budget.  Of course, the original plan was to Musify the Shadow in basically the same color palette and use of hard and soft goods.  But, based on what I have heard, Shadow is going to go through a much more extensive transformation than initially planned.

I'm hoping ZQTchas can confirm while on board this week, or Colonel(Ret)Wes can do the same when he boards in a little under 3-weeks time.

  1. Arts Cafe will debut on the ship (woo hoo!) where the Library and Internet Corner presently reside.
  2. The Library will be relocated to the Observation Lounge.
  3. La Dame is going to double in size by taking over the Connoisseur Corner's space.
  4. I believe the Connoisseur Corner will be relocated to the Conference/Card Room space.
  5. I am not for sure where the the Conference/Card Room will be relocated to, but rumor has it the Casino size will be reduced, so maybe it'll go there.

I remember when Project Invictus was announced last summer, RCL planned to partially refit all guest cabins on Silver Whisper.  Did that actually occur?  If so, I don't know if RCL plans to do the same on Silver Shadow.

That sounds like bad news for Bridge players, especially on voyages with a number of sea days

I don't think they are getting rid of it, I just can't remember where it's planned to be relocated to.  As long as the space has windows, I'm sure it'll be just as nice as where it is now.

That may be Stumblefoot, however at present it’s a dedicated space that can cope with the likely number of players. When the Spirit came out it had a card room with three tables and bridge got located to the Supper Club or the Obs Lounge, neither of which were appropriate. The room on the Muse is just about adequate, but it’s smaller than the one on Shadow.

Ah, got it Mr. Silver.  While we have enjoyed the card room on the ships, I've never really paid attention to the differences.  So, thanks for sharing!

While we aren't bridge players, we know many passengers are and enjoy the game.  So hopefully, RCL will create something very nice for the new card room.

From my pointy of view, this is all good news.

The Arts Cafe will be a welcome addition.  They will need at least one public internet terminal somewhere on ship, but with the development of technology, the library and internet room can easily be sacrificed IMHO.  Many people now carry e-books and can do much of their online work with smartphones, tablets, or laptops.  And with the rich on demand movie options available on Musified ships they will hardly need so much room for DVDs/tapes/etc.

I would assume that, along with rapid decline in smoking rates, usage of the Connoisseur space has declined significant since Shadow was launched.

I very rarely venture into the casino (except on lines where I am forced to walk through it to get from here to there!).  When I have, it has been very quiet.  Is it conceivable that Silversea would eliminate it?  Viking Ocean seems to be flourishing without casinos.

You know, I've always wondered the same thing as it seems so often there are few, if any, gamblers present in the casino when I walk by.  However, on our voyage a couple of weeks ago, there was someone gambling in the Shadow's casino EVERY time I walked by in the afternoon or evening.  I imagine SS earns a pretty penny from leasing the space to the vendor, so I doubt they get rid of the casino completely.

Worry not.  Even on Spirit/Muse, the outlets that now occupy the space that would traditionally be occupied by the Restaurant (MDR) are open seating without reservations needed or (generally) accepted.  In any case, I have heard nothing to indicate that the older ships (e.g. Whisper/Shadow) will no longer have an open seating  MDR.

Sorry. I do worry. Yes,  Atlantide and Indochine are open seating but their menus never change so it's a totally different and more limiting experience.

I understand that when Muse launched the menus in these outlets were unchanging.  But I can speak from personal experience that this is no longer the case.  I can speak more authoritatively about Indochine than Atlantide.  For example, the spicy curry dish on one menu was Rogan Josh.  On the next cycle it was Malabar Chicken and the lamb dish was not available.  There were other changes — e,g. In the vegetarian entree, in the soups, desserts, etc.  I really do not recall the situation in Atlantide as I ate there more rarely, but that menu (and the choices) are huge — too large IMHO.

Yes having left the Muse 2 weeks ago I can confirm what Observer has said.We liked Atlantide and one of the reasons was because of the changes in menu.Only ate twice in Indochine but the menu was different on each occasion.

We also really liked the Arts Cafe concept so good to see it on the shadow.
