Insurance rates for third party policies are based on age and amount being insured.  You will find policy costs range widely based on these two factors.

 

Cruise line policies are non-age based, and typically run 4%-8% of the amount being insured.  Depending on your personal needs (amount of medical coverage desired, likely reasons for cancellation coverage, your own age, etc.) these may or may not be competitive with third party rates.
