Is there any confirmation anywhere about a 200-250 pound slot machine flipping over and landing on a woman?  That sounds rather extreme even given what happened

I own a real slot machine, and I can tell you that they are crazy heavy, at least 300#

Also, they're more bottom heavy than top heavy, top is little more than lights and stuff.

Be hard to see one actually toppling over, especially onto someone. Have to be some seriously violent thrashing motion, like a snap motion, to get one over, being most all the weight is at bottom

What's this I heard about someone going nuts on Twitter because their room hadn't been cleaned at 3 AM....folks on Twitter looking for attention are good for a laugh, or a mocking...whatever works.

Talked to a couple that saw the incident in the casino.  The slot really didn’t fall on the passenger.  The observers said she lost her footing and ran into it.  They said she had a good sized bump on her head that drew a little blood.  But, it probably didn’t require stitches.

Yesterday, I saw (and heard) the couple with the “messy cabin” who wanted crew to clean it at 3:00 a.m.

I hate to make immediate judgements, but they were exactly as you might imagine they’d be.  I’ll leave it at that.

Their cabin pics looked staged to me.

On our local news last night they had a report on this.  Of course it was sensationalized for TV.  They said the ship tilted 45 degrees and there were several severe injuries and that the ship had to make an emergency stop in Port Canaveral.  I had to laugh.  An emergency stop, LOL.  If they would have done any research they would have seen it is the first schedule stop of the cruise.

When my cruise ship listed 10 degrees to Starboard one night back in Dec. 2009

I was over on the hi/up side of the list -and out on to Outside Port-side Deck

in a modest hurry!

They doors were already heavy to lift open, and it was only 10 degrees!

The rest of the folks in there were like .. Geez I wonder what's happening?

I'm sure there is a lot of truth in this video but I don't recall anybody saying they feared the ship would capsize.  Probably a case of the  media sensationalizing the news

well it sounds like nothing too horrible unless you were on the ship and freaked out. I am sure I would have paniced. And of course the stories we see on TV are sensationalizing. I heard all the horror stories this morning when we were water walking. Most of those who were relating the story had gotten their information from the TV yesterday.

hahaha, this is the funniest video. It "nearly" tilted onto its side. The "virtual view" is hilarious. They show what a 45 degree tilt would look like, and that would mean decks 8 & 9 were in the water for 5 minutes. Did they notice that there are no videos showing flooded rooms? And I have been on a cruise when we were out in rough sees and a stabilizer broke (our honeymoon on Princess) it was a little scary, but nothing compared to these individuals being so dramatic. I love the one who posted photos of their clothing thrown all around the room, opened luggage. Really? it was so rough that it threw your clothing around the room and opened your luggage? I get it, it was after midnight, people had been enjoying their unlimited packages, so their view on it might be a little off.

That was a special cruise.  You guys and all the folks I met at the M&G were among the best cruise friends I’ve ever had on a cruise.

Escape is a great ship, too.  I’ve met more wonderful people so far this week ... It it certainly will go down as the most eventful cruises I’ve ever taken.

Will give a full pictorial review when I return home.

What a bummer to miss GSC, my batting average lately has been horrible with making ashore as a scheduled stop - I was afraid of it happening, we're told that when the north wind is blowing at GSC, don't even bother thinking about it & that the sea can be calm & flat.

Looks like ship is almost full stop & docking at the pier, last 2 times @ Nassau, we just taxi'd over to Baha Mar resort and ... for some action, and hightailed out of there after a few hours with our tiny bit of "loot".   We got a private pre-opening tour of their high end Chinese restaurant, just wow - probably with prices to match, like everything else at that place.

I see that DuckTollerFans posted, "hi" there ... what a great M&G we on the Gem and that Cabin Crawl was nice, haven't been in touch with Pat & Jim lately.   We haven't book anything new on NCL lately, next one will probably a last minute one - eyeing one of our old favorite, the Dawn, I think, this May & get our fresh Maine lobster fixes.  Haven't cruise NE/Canada in over 10 years & the old/original Garden Villa was just incredible on a walk-thru tour when she was homeport in NY.

Thanks for the live posts & update, and great job/efforts & time in putting things in perspective without the drama.  Look forward to your pictorial review later.  Regards ... Henry !!

My local news said the ship "returned" to Port Canaveral.  Some of it is trying to beat the other stations to the scoop...

Will wait for the throngs to disembark en mass.  Then I’ll saunter off and grab a ride.

Baha Mar sounds like a good stop.  Been here many times before.  Will wander around a bit since we aren’t on any schedule today!

Happy we have warm enough weather to finally sit on the balcony!

Hmmmmm....Port Canaveral was OUR SCHEDULED FIRST STOP.  There was no emergency that I’m aware of.

If the GMA ship tilting re-enactment were true, I would have been under water as I was/am on Deck 8.  Must have slept through that part.

We originated out of NYC.  We pulled into Canaveral on time yesterday as our first scheduled stop.  We DID NOT “go back” to Canaveral for any reason.

It’s amazing to me the amount of misinformation being reported about this (some of it my fault as I did not confirm some of the initial  details....sorry!) by  news sources and even some passengers.

@graphicguy I was aware of the originating port as I'd been following the thread, that's why I commented on the poor fact-checking.

Thanks....maybe skip the “off the beaten path” parts of Nassau!

Been to Nassau many times before, just never docked over night!

See you are there already.  At least you'll have today and tomorrow there.  When we skipped GSC we got into Nassau at 6 p.m.  All the stuff pretty much closed by the port except bars.  Had a crazy local walking behind us offering a variety of things for sale.

P.S.  That is my yacht the other side of the Sky.

I don't think it happened but you can check the RC Forum

I tried to use facts and pictures to debunk the 45 degree list comment on FB this morning and basically got called an insensitive NCL cheerleader.🙄

If the list had been at 45 degrees for 5 minutes as GMA reported, the damage and injuries would have been FAR, FAR greater than what happened.

The first picture is taken from my aft balcony when a ship I was on experienced a sustained list of about 10 degrees. Did it feel like more than that? Absolutely! Was it scary? Yup! It was hard to walk, and anything loose was sliding around. The second is an illustration I found here on CC many years ago...I think it was right after the list on the Crown Princess.

Just thought I’d share some visuals that help put these numbers in perspective.

Exactly. Just an example of people reporting things that didn’t actually happen

@slugg your comment is intriguing to a ship geek like me! (geek only in the wondering-how-it-works sense as a cruiser; i'm in no way a student of the maritime world!) i was on the ESCAPE on the 12/9-21 trip and we went through storms the first 2 sea days. (it was my 8th cruise so stormy seas were not new to me, but this was the stormiest ever!) plus, i had an aft-facing balcony so could feel it more... plus i was truly fascinated by and wondering how exactly the ship could withstand that violent sea state beyond knowing it was built for it. i felt it so much that i woke up at 4 AM and had to check the navigation channel, and saw a screen that confirmed my concern! (see pic) soooooo if you can please direct me to how to do this basic research on the physics you mention, i'd high five you in my mind! thanks!

We were on the same sailing as you — Deck 17, almost all the way forward and the motion seemed sort of minimal to us, but I know a lot of people were sick.  We’ve experienced worse on the Jewel in the Pacific.

Don’t know much about the physics of ships on the open water, but where I live, we get strong wind gusts quite often, and they do sometimes knock big rigs over — so seems plausible to me, that a ship could experience some significant tilt with winds at 100mph
