We prefer to just tour cities on our own when we can. Looking at the hop on-hop off buses in these cities but also wondering how easy it is in any of them to just visit the ports on our own??? Any input good or bad is most welcome as we have never been to this region. Thanks

We have been to Penang twice on land trips.  It is a great stop and VERY easy to do on your own.  Lots of good places to eat.  Don’t miss the wall paintings.

Not sure where the cruise ship docks.  If it is in a Georgetown by the ferry dock then you will be in the perfect spot to begin your sightseeing.
