cruiseguy1016 Posted March 22, 2019 #1 Share Posted March 22, 2019 I just read another thread regarding smoking on Brilliance. I didn't want to hijack that thread so I started this one that is a little off topic from that one. I was on Adventure two weeks ago and noticed that there was a no smoking section in the casino. I don't think I have ever seen that before. I was at a table playing Caribbean Stud and another player was scolded for using his E-Cig at the table. I don't know how wide spread the no smoking section was but you could definitely tell the difference. My wife does not like cigarette smoke at all. She actually spent a few hours on this cruise playing games in the casino with me and never complained about the smell. Even walking through from Bolero's to the Schooner Bar we did not notice the smoke. There were times on past cruises on this ship when we could smell the smoke coming up the staircase that leads from the casino to the Royal Promenade. We never noticed it on this last cruise. Ken at the beach Posted March 22, 2019 #2 Share Posted March 22, 2019 On every casino on a Royal that I have been to in the last several years one side has always been non smoking.

Yes, I agree, I have noticed the same thing on every casino on every ship we have been on over the past four years.
BND Posted March 22, 2019 #4 Share Posted March 22, 2019 Yeah, that's not new. I always play in the non-smoking section, which in a way is a joke, but it's always been that way. I prefer Oasis class where the casino is split in half. It contains the smoke better on one side of the ship.
snaefell Posted March 22, 2019 #5 Share Posted March 22, 2019 I was quite shocked to hear that smoking was still allowed in the casinos,I guess over here in Europe we are used to it being banned in most,if not all, places. I know it isn't banned in all US States,I remember being in Nevada some years ago & being shocked at how much I could notice the smoke from the one smoker in a casino having been used to a ban on smoking! springfire Posted March 22, 2019 #6 Share Posted March 22, 2019 The Jewel of the Seas Casino is incredibly smokey. The casino is so small that smoke fills the air everywhere. It was hard to tell which side was the smoking side. The worst part is people just came to the casino to smoke and not even gamble. Hopefully Royal will fix this problem. cello56 Posted March 22, 2019 #7 Share Posted March 22, 2019 It's sort of like having a "NO PEEING" side of the pool. I hate, hate, hate smoking. If Celebrity can be profitable being non smoking in the casino and almost all pubic areas, why can't RCI? Forty-one cruises and we have never spent a nickel in their casinos. We can't even walk through them due to the smoke. 3
davekathy Posted March 22, 2019 #8 Share Posted March 22, 2019 Too bad the smoke and stench doesn't stay on just the smoking side of the casino.

It's banned here, in Casinos as well. It makes me shake my head when people imply that it would be impossible for a Casino to function without smoke.

We've also noticed the chimney effect (right up the stairs) on all other class ships that have the promenade deck above the casino.

springfire Posted March 22, 2019 #13 Share Posted March 22, 2019 I have to believe a change is coming, the casino would be so much cleaner without smoking.

Hopefully Royal will fix this problem. It was pretty bad on Adventure. If you walked into the casino from the Schooner Bar side, there were often people smoking, not playing, at the first row of slot machines. I had to ask a female passenger twice to not put her feet on me as I was playing at a machine and she was hanging out smoking, sprawled across multiple stools. cruisegirl1 Posted March 22, 2019 #16 Share Posted March 22, 2019 While Oasis class has a non smoking side, other ships just have a small non smoking section. Sometimes just a few rows of machines. And, the same machines are not in both sections. If one is particular about a specific machine and does not like LOTS of smoke, they are out of luck. We spent less time in the casino on our recent Symphony cruise then any other cruise . The machines we liked were in the smoking side. But it is not simply a smoking section, but a ship wide smoking lounge. Packed with smokers, not necessarily players. Casino is listed as the only indoors smoking area. I don't fault the smokers as they are smoking in a designated area. And the non smoking areas are so poorly marked that passengers enter the casino and light up not realizing they are in a non smoking section. I would love a smoke free casino, but would be happy with even a few smoke free nights! M

I honestly believe Royal will be changing their policy in the future, at least I hope so. We followed up with an email to Royal after our last cruise, letting them know how we felt about the smoke in the casino.
cruisegirl1 Posted March 22, 2019 #18 Share Posted March 22, 2019 If there are more non smoking players, and just smokers not playing, maybe they can have a small smoking section, rather than a small non smoking section. RCCL - do you ever read these boards? M

It's was listed in the Cruise Compass as one of the designated smoking areas. We did a B2B cruise on the Freedom 3 March and 10 March and I walked into the Connoisseur Club to check it out (we are non smokers). There were a lot of cigarette smokers in there; well at least what I could see through the smoke screen.
