Is there a free sauna on Navigator of the Seas

Recommended Posts

Navigator's recent "amping" removed the original fitness center to replace that area with more cabins, and the fitness center was relocated to a different part of the ship. There have been several reviews since then, but no one has confirmed what kind of locker rooms, if any, there are now associated with the new fitness center, or whether they have any kind of steam/sauna facilities. However, it is doubtful that there are free steam/saunas on Navigator any longer. Royal's trend with its newest ships has been to provide very minimal locker rooms and no free steam/sauna facilities. Instead, these have become a profit center in the form of a thermal suite in the spa.

Hopefully one of these times someone reviewing their recent cruise on Navigator will provide the details about its fitness center locker rooms. Initially, the fitness center opening was delayed by some construction issues, reportedly.

So far what I have seen here on CC is that there is a small sauna in the spa for the use of paying spa guests only, but not a thermal suite. Someone who was on board recently responded to the question about the new fitness center facilities that she did not see any locker rooms--only a small locker area. So it sounds like, as expected, no more free facilities.

That is a share to hear.  That area is one of my favourite things about that class of ship and the Freedom class of ships.

Yesterday I canceled my reservation for a cruise in Navigator of the Seas because I was informed of the changes in the gym and sauna / steam area.  For me it is important that on a cruise there are gym and sauna facilities (free or paid) and that they can be used.  A ship of 3800 passengers that decides to reduce the size of the gym will only guarantee that there is no availability to use it.  I regret having to stop traveling the Royal Caribben

Check out Mariner, her fitness center survived the bean counter "make every single space a revenue generator" treatment, at least until the next dry dock.

It has now been confirmed that there are no locker rooms in new the Navigator fitness center. There are restrooms, but no showers.

Didn't realize there were no showers.  They really messed it up.

Someone who had been on Navigator recently replied to my query on a different thread and confirmed there weren't proper locker rooms. It's been so long since I've been on Oasis/Allure, I can't remember what the fitness center restrooms/locker areas are like, but I didn't think they had showers either.

Now that I'm hearing about no showers in the Navigator's fitness area, I am a bit concerned about the cruise I'm looking into for January. The last cruise I took was on the Explorer in 2012.  I was a plus-sized gal then, but I still fit the room shower just fine.  My sister was a little bigger than me, and she even fit ok.  I hate to admit it, but I am slightly larger than I was back then, but still smaller than my sister was.  I will be cruising with a family member who is larger than my sister was back then.  I figured she could use the fitness area showers if necessary, but they are not an option now.  We can't afford to pay extra for an accessible room or a suite upgrade.  I guess if she needs to, she can shower at Cococay.  Do people ever shower by the pools(as opposed to simply rinsing) with their swimwear on?

I see people using the pool showers, but never using soap and shampoo.

I’ve seen just about everything at the pool showers. Shampooing up wouldn’t be an issue, stripping to the buff will definitely bring out a few looks.

if one get caught in the buff. Hey, it’s a three or four night cruise—- claim that you partied too hard at CooCoo Land 👀

Sorry to make a little change in topic...........has the Rhapsody made any changes in the sauna/steam room?  We have enjoyed a good steam before dinner.  Need to sweat out the wine from the night before, so I can have some more the next night😎   🍷

A spa routine featuring a steam room, sauna, ice grotto, and hot tub is part of my morning happiness on cruises.  I booked Royal before I knew about their lack of.  I am not miffed or anything just disappointed.  Heck I would even trade the casino for the spa option.  I am still looking forward to my Aug 19 Royal cruise but afterwards .....its back to my Celebrity and Viking cruisilations.🌎

Fortunately, Royal has not (yet) been destroying the fitness centers on Vision and Radiance class ships.

We got off Navigator on Friday and we missed CoCo Cay due to hurricane Dorian. My biggest disappointment of the entire cruise was finding out the steam & sauna rooms have been removed. There are several nice additions and several not so nice changes to Navigator since coming out of refurbishment last April. The entire forward section on deck 11 where the fitness center was located is all staterooms now. The pools are packed like sardines due to more guest and no noticeable increase in pool size.

Hooks specialty seafood restaurant is incredible(best crab cakes anywhere) BUT at $49pp w/ gratuity its not worth it imho. The portions are way to large and we were both stuffed before the main entree arrived. I could barely eat half of my whole lobster when it arrived and dessert was out of the question. A couple sitting next to us agreed it was way to much food even for a hungry man. RCCL should really revamp the pricing structure at Hooks by charging less and serving smaller portions. Hooks would be real revenue generator if they offered oysters, crab cakes and chowders a la carte  at the bar in Hooks.

All things considered I think we'll pass on Navigator for future sailings unless they offer an incredible deal.

Here it is in all it's glory.  This is August of 2022 and yes, it exists post-renovation.  It's small but nice.  There's also 2 showers, 2 toilets and a place to hang your towel.

Spa.jpg

Whereabouts is this? Is it in a free area or in the spa for a charge? Is it unisex or male only/female only?
