We are sailing out of New York for the first time at the end of October and have booked our transfers and pre cruise hotel with them. They cannot give us the name of our hotel until 90 days before we are due to stay (seems strange) Does anyone know which hotels Princess use as we would like to have an idea as to where we could be staying

Thanks in advance for any replies

The Princess website says they use the Times Square Intercontinental.  Certainly a handy location (on 44th just west of 8th Ave.)., but it is also the most expensive IC hotel in Manhattan.  Google says it's $388/nt.  The other IC hotel (the Barclay) in midtown is on Lexington and 48th.  IMHO, that's a slightly better location.  Also less expensive at $264/nt.  I'm sure Princess gets their hotel rooms at a reduced rate in any case.  We have always booked our own pre-cruise hotels wherever we depart from (mostly Ft. Lauderdale and Southampton UK, but also once each in Houston and NYC) and arrange our own transportation to the ship.  Ditto for post-cruise hotel if we're not flying home immediately (mostly in Copenhagen).  [Note:  I shoulda been a travel agent <g>.]

Thanks for the information.

This is our first time leaving from NY. Like yourself we always do our own arrangements when we leave from Ft Lauderdale. We are getting a great deal on the flights so we thought we would use their hotel and transfers to save any hassle. Never been in NY  before except to change planes to go to Ft Lauderdale

We left from "NYC" for our Canada-NE cruise a few years ago, but it actually left from Bayonne NJ (a Celebrity cruise).  We had done a few days pre-cruise in NYC on our own since we hadn't been to the city for a few years and then arranged private transport to NJ with another couple on our Roll Call.  The captain took us up near the Statue of Liberty and then a little further up the Hudson River so we got a good view of lower Manhattan.  Hope the weather is good enough for you to be out on deck until you sail under the Verranzzano Bridge out into the Atlantic.  Enjoy your time in NYC and on the cruise!

Princess don't even know which port  we are leaving from. Our cruise booking states either Manhattan or Brooklyn so we are playing the guessing game right now. We are so looking forward to the 6 sea days that we have on this cruise,  starting in New York and finishing in Ft Lauderdale and sail past the Statue of Liberty.

If you're leaving out of the Manhattan terminal and want to do your own thing and save some money try booking a room at the Kimpton Ink 48.   Very nice hotel which gives you a few perks if you sign up for a Kimpton (part of the IHG group) card.  Reasonable prices (for New York) and it's a very easy 1 block walk to the Manhatten cruise terminal in the morning, which eliminates the need for a cab ride. It also has a nice (but very $$$) rooftop bar.  There is also easy access to restaurants, bars, delis, shops etc all located in the "Hells Kitchen" area.

NYC Port Schedule has your cruise (assuming the 10/31 repo cruise as you describe it) leaving from Brooklyn:

https://www.nycruise.com/schedule/

As a general rule Princess only uses the Manhattan cruise terminal for intermediate port calls (such as on their world cruises); if a turnover day it is a near-guarantee you will be in Brooklyn. Why the online itinerary on the Princess website does not change to reflect this once the NYC Port Authority assigns the berths at the beginning of each year is a bit baffling.
