hpeabody Posted April 7, 2019 #1 Share Posted April 7, 2019 I will have 2 full days in Anchorage prior to starting my cruisetour. I will be renting a car at the airport. I am looking for ideas for things to do that are driveable from Anchorage. I have previously done the Kenai Fjords, Alyeska and along Turnagain Arm. I will scan this Alaska forum to look for ideas also.
Glaciers Posted April 7, 2019 #2 Share Posted April 7, 2019 (edited) Can't have too many drives down Turnagain Arm! Another option is heading up to Matanuska Glacier for a trek with a guide. 2 hours north east. Edited April 7, 2019 by Glaciers

They still offer wildlife adventures in May, you might check in with them to see. You have a lot of time in Anchorage so can spend an entire day getting out and about. They are a real safe air taxi and know the country. Book with Rusts Flying Service for a Bear Mountain Lodge in Chinitna Bay bear viewing adventure or maybe their Lake Clarke Bear and Wildlife viewing excursion. https://www.flyrusts.com/rusts-flying-history/ "In 1996, the Rust Family also introduced a new concept, bear viewing in a day. These tours opened up a new opportunity for visitors with less time or money to visit the famed Brooks Falls in Katmai National Park and the beautiful Redoubt Bay Lodge. Previously, these opportunities had been primarily overnight experiences. In addition to Katmai and Redoubt Bay, we also offer two bear viewing tours to Lake Clark National Park." SightCRR Posted April 8, 2019 #8 Share Posted April 8, 2019 On the way up to Matanuska Glacier for a trek with a guide stop by the musk ox farm in Palmer and Independence Mine (off the main road a ways & closed Mondays). That would make a great but long day.
