Sushi

Hi we are doing our second Odyssey cruise in July and first Encore straight after. My question is I like sushi and am looking forward to trying the Sushi restaurant on Encore, my wife does not like sushi! Will she be able to eat something else, ie burger, steak or anything not sushi there while I tuck in??

I do not think that room service will deliver a burger or anything else to the Sushi restaurant.

There are plenty of other restaurants to eat in or do as I do and go alone to Sushi if your partner does not wish to eat Sushi.

My recommendation as well Mr. Luxury.   Consider it an opportunity for each of you to enjoy what you most enjoy.   You are not, after all, joined at the hip with your partner.   Spend an hour or so enjoying the sushi at the lovely sushi restaurant on board while your partner enjoys the Colonnade, the patio grill at lunch, or room service.   Then you can each share your experience with the other!   How lovely.

I suggest doing sushi first -- maybe your wife can try something safe like California Rolls?

And then go someplace for a burger.

TWO DINNERS!  How can you beat that?

My wife and I were on Ovation recently and we have exactly the same problem as yourselves.(One likes, the other doesn't !)

Whilst the menu is very restrictive if one doesn't like Sushi/Sashimi she did join me and had the salad, vegetarian rolls, and yummy Edamame beans (which are not on the menu but always available). She also helped me with the Sake :classic_happy:.

We treated the visit as a 'light meal' having taken our main meal at lunchtime.

It's also worth noting that the lunch in the Sushi restaurant is not bad, but different. They serve 3 different Bento boxes, one of which is chicken if I remember correctly.

Usually sushi not available in the Colonnade but I have on several occasions asked for a Sashimi plate at lunch (Ody class ship) and they have always made it available. Ask the restaurant manager. If you ask in my experience the staff will always make an effort to provide.

Concerning the issue of one liking Sushi (and what it offers) and the other not:  My husband loves breakfast in the Colonnade---all the offerings and especially the sausages.  I really dislike a crowded breakfast and especially a buffet breakfast.  I LOVE the serenity of breakfast in the MDR.  So--what to do?  Some days I go to the Colonnade for breakfast with my husband, bucking it up and just realizing that you don't always get what you want.  Some days my husband goes with me for breakfast to the MDR (probably dreaming of all the sausage he is missing in the Colonnade).  OTHER days, I go to breakfast in the MDR by myself and my husband goes to the Colonnade.  On days when we have an early excursion, we order room service breakfast.

Did you have to ask in advance?

Yes, no sushi restaurant on the Three Sisters 😐.   As a sushi fan, I did really miss this spot on Odyssey last

December.   I also really enjoyed the quiet and peaceful ambience found there.   I'd happily do without the casino as I am not a gambler, and reconfigure the smaller ships to incorporate the sushi restaurant into their deck plans.   I speak only for myself, of course!

Great idea.  But, it's a money maker for Seabourn.  How about the Retreat?  Most everyone loves to hate it and , if anything, it's a "money loser." Everyone would be happy...even Seabourn.

The retreat and the sushi restaurant are on the same ships.

I was in the exact same situation on our first Encore sailing.

Where is my work around: Sushi is small and delivers you your "sushi" really fast. So I would sneak up to Sushi and 'woof down' my 5 pieces of nigiri while my wife was still drying her hair and getting ready for dinner.   Problem solved :)

As long as you know they exist you can ask for any kind of sausages, or bacon, or anything else available in the Colonnade buffet when you're in the MDR and they'll get it for you. And if you want a second portion, they'll get you that too. So no need to miss out on the variety in the Colonnade, only the scrum. We just returned from 18 days on the Sojourn, MDR was open for breakfast every day and any day we wanted breakfast, we went there. Our only trip to the Colonnade at breakfast was a reconnaissance trip at the start of the cruise to see what fruits they had on board, which were then ordered in the MDR.

It took us many cruises to try the MDR for breakfast, now we would never do anything different.
