Private tour company out of Dover, UK

Recommended Posts

We are looking for a private tour company to take us to Leeds Castle, Canterbury Cathedral and see the cliffs in Dover,

any recommendations?  I saw some reviews about a company called Eds Taxi Dover on trip advisor, and they were all good.

We are in Dover at the end of July on the Viking Jupiter for the day

The tour through the ship is about $360 for two people, and then you need to be on a bus with lots of other people and on someone else's schedule

Thanks for any input

Eddie Manning is London-based - fine for Jezabel's tour-transfer to LHR, but if he quotes for Dover-to-Dover his price will include about 3 hours of "empty" travel.

You really need a tour operator or taxi service based in or close to Dover.

No personal experience of any of these, but they're amongst the leading private-hire operators in the area

Hopefuly Cruise Critic's local resident Philbeach wil join this thread with recommendations.

BTW, don't waste your time with "the White Cliffs of Dover".

Difficult to get a tolerably-panoramic view from anywhere ashore, best view is from the ship on your sail-away.

As JB says, you're  probably best with a local taxi firm (the ones he's listed are good) to take you round. There is Tours by Locals (https://www.toursbylocals.com) but they are usually based on more than 2 people but might be worth a try, especially if there are any other couples wanting to share. You can contact the local guides to see how much they'd charge for specific tours (whatever places you want to go) and maybe compare to the taxi charges. They have a very good reputation. Guess it depends if you want a 'tour' or just travel to each place.

Thank you so much, we definitely want someone local, and thanks for tip about seeing cliffs, I am fine with watching from ship :-), and I don’t think we want to hike down and back up either

always so happy to get responses from the cruise critic community, thank you as always

We're also on the BI cruise on Viking Jupiter and will be in Dover at the end of July.  I went to the website of the "tours by locals" and the price of the tour to Canterbury Cathedral and Leeds Castle is around $1700 US per tour (up to 6 passengers)!!!   The price of the optional Viking tour to the same places looked expensive at $179 each, but it's starting to look much more reasonably priced!

We used White cliff maybe 10 years ago or so.  It was excellent.  We were debarking in Dover and had a hotel booked in Canterbury for the night before our flight home the next day.  There was supposed to be another couple booked, but they didn't show, so we got a private tour

Our driver--I think his name was Herman or Herbert--went out of his way to show us everything and even more.  We saw Dover Castle, including the WW2 tunnels, the white cliffs,  on a short hike, hunted down some thatched cottages for me, several other castles as drive-bys and some very scenic towns and villages on our way to Canterbury.  It was a great day.  He took us down to the sea on a spectacular route that had some very gorgeous homes.  He was quite garrulous, but we learned a lot.

  • 2 weeks later...

We used Dover Taxis for transfer from Dover  to Heathrow last year with a stop at Chartwell.  While not a tour guide our driver was knowledgeable about the area.  We did our own research for Chartwell, etc.  Think it was around 250pounds for the transfer and wait time at Chartwell(two hours).
