Viking Nuremberg tour options

While on the Romantic Danube, the Nuremberg Through History (free excursion)-  how much is walk or drive by vs. which places do you actually get to enter and view? Wondering as we will arrive a day early and plan to explore and see many things on that day as we get over jet lag and adjust to the new time zone. We are wondering about the redundancy and if we will have already seen and entered the same sites and should therefore opt for a different excursion.

Hi there.

This review covers Viking's optional Nuremberg excursion and may be of interest to you...

It was a fascinating tour and well worth the money.

One would never get the level of information with other than an excellent guide...

in our experience the 'included tour' did a drive by of places like where the Nuremberg Trials were held and then you did a walking tour thru the 'old castle' (part of old walled city) ... it didn't get near the 'documentation center' or the other major (NAZI) sites near there however.  We spent an additional two days in Nur' (or cruise ended there) and they were full days and there was plenty more to see when we boarded a train for Hamburg .... <and QM2 for the trip home>

The city has EXCELLENT public transportation btw ..... we took advantage of the trolley system.

We REALLY enjoyed our time in Nur' ..... altho one often falls back and realizes that 90% of what you see has been rebuilt since WWII where the place was nearly bombed to dust . . .

We were on a Viking river cruise last that did a stop in Nuremberg.  We wanted to do more than a drive by bus tour.  We made arrangements with this private tour guide.  kevin@tourguide-kevin.com

Kevin is an American who married a German woman, and stayed in Germany after his military service.  He customized a day long tour for our group of 4.  He was worth the extra expense.
