Visit a ship on port

Princess has a program called the Bon Voyage Experience.  It is only offered in some US ports, only on embarkation day.    It costs $35-40 which can be applied to a cruise if the person decides to go.

21 hours ago, getting older slowly said:

personally it is a great idea..... to see the ship for real before spending thousands of dollars on a cruises....

which all cruise lines would do it.

Cheers Don

Once upon a time in a far away land....they did.  9/11 changed much, including ship visitations.  The United States--indeed the World--hasn't been the same since.

As a previous poster has said:  for Princess Cruises, it may be possible.  It may be possible for others on cruises to have guests come aboard for a brief visit.  But, it requires much lead time and much documentation provided by the proposed guests for such visits to be granted.  And, even then, such visits are denied at times.

Thank you all for your replies.

Royal Princess is in Vancouver in June and i was desperate to show my friend. Is it still worth asking local cruise specialist TAs? I wanted to surprise him with a ahip visit, he’s never even seen a cruise ship before, it would blow him away.

As rkacruiser noted, visiting ships in port changed after 9/11. For many years I went down to Canada Place most Saturdays for lunch and a few beers with the officers on the Princess Ships.

However, that's all changed. To visit our son, who worked for Princess, we had to submit passport details to the SECO a few days before arrival. Since I believe this might be RP's inaugural season in Vancouver, you may find a local travel agent that could get you aboard. If you have completed extensive business with a TA the chances will be higher. Walking in off the street, probably a little less.

I believe the Bon Voyage is only offered in US ports.  And not all US ports.  So I don't think it will be held in Vancouver.  In fact, the TA brochure I linked to in my previous reply states that it is only offered in NYC, Fort Lauderdale, Seattle, San Francisco, and LA.   EM

Affirmative, the Princess Bon Voyage program is not available in Vancouver, but at least when I visited the Princess ships in Vancouver, they frequently had groups of TA's aboard. If you have a good relationship with a TA, they may assist in getting you aboard.

Not sure what checks of TA's were made before they got approved for coming aboard. Provided their name was on the list and they provided photo ID at the gangway, they received a visitor pass.
