Gatwick to Heathrow connection

Recommended Posts

Has anybody ever had to transfer from Gatwick to Heathrow for a flight connection, if so how long does it take?

The National Bus shuttle is probably your best bet. It is only about 40 miles, but when I did it a few years ago it was about 1 hr 15 mins. Time is highly dependent on the M25 traffic. Most trips are probably 60 - 90 mins.

You should be aware they do not go to T3 at LHR, as you are dropped off at the LHR Central Bus Station. It is about a 10 to 15 min walk through tunnels on a number of moving walkways to reach the terminal.

Other option is hiring a limo - in London we use Addison Lee. You could also take transit into London, then out to LHR, but I certainly would not recommend that option.

I thought I'd refresh this thread.

This, and similar, question crops up all over the CC board.
Good news: London's new Crosslink rail line (aka the Elizabeth Line) means exchanging between any of London's umpteen airports gets a lot easier - one of the reasons it was conceived. It is one of the biggest infrastucture projects in the world.
So, re Gatwick to Heathrow (and vice versa): Take a northbound train from Gatwick (the station is underneath the concourse) north into London, to Farringdon. Then a westbound train to your Heathrow terminal. The Farringdon connection is step-free.

Bingo.

The bad news:
Crossrail was supposed to open in 2018. The latest forecast is not before March 2021.
There have been several cost overruns and completion dates. So there is nothing to suggest the latest estimate (for that is what it is, not a firm date) will not again be superseded.

Stay tuned. For when it does open, it will make a massive difference to travel in, through and around London.
