numnums Posted August 11, 2023 #251 Share Posted August 11, 2023 I was too young to go cruising on my own, and when i finally could and have the money arranged i was looking up so much of the creperie stations on celebrity cruises. I had an incredible disappointment when i learned they changed it to sushi on 5...which did not taste delightful at all... maybe next time... I was also hoping for a tea time with tiny sandwiches...lol...Or possibly more raw seafood at the buffet.
D. B. Posted August 11, 2023 #252 Share Posted August 11, 2023 Ice Carvings by the Pool. Watching a crew member from the Philippines hack into a giant block of ice and come out with a giant eagle was always fun to watch. Maybe the Ice got too expensive or the carving tools were too dangerous?

Outdoor deck taken over by The Retreat. I guess they do helipad sail away by invitation only. Seems only to be Retreat thru Con class. I have had many helipad sail away invitations based on Elite level CC . We never do anything above a basic balcony cabin. Sometimes they have to divide them up for separate days if a lot of invites are given. At ports where the dock is way inland it's a great experience. Esprit Posted August 11, 2023 #255 Share Posted August 11, 2023 Fresh squeezed orange juice in the OVC for breakfast. Aboard Reflection two weeks ago I could only get it at the Spa Cafe. How ridiculous!
Cruise a holic Posted August 11, 2023 #256 Share Posted August 11, 2023 I also miss Bistro on Five. We do not eat sushi and had a tradition of eating lunch at Bistro on boarding day.

You see the rollout tables for breakfast, lunch, and dinner on the balcony at some of the nicer hotels when you order room service. See photo of breakfast table for sky suite on the Edge in 2019. That is so cheesy. I believe since the useless rocking chairs were removed from the sky suites, you have a table. We enjoy breakfast on the balcony. However now no table cloth. No longer elegant. Miss those breakfasts

Rare Von & John Posted August 11, 2023 #260 Share Posted August 11, 2023 (edited) So Many Memories!!! Thanks for sharing - I have a HUGE Smile on my face after reading them... Welcome Aboard Champagne / Bubbly Midnight Buffets Chocolate Buffet Ice Carvings Garde Manger Displays Sail Ins & Sail Aways A-Maze-Ing Food!!!! Tableside Prep in the Dining Room Quality Cheese Selections Fantabulous Breads & Pastries Ocean Liners, Normandie, The Olympia, The United States & Similar Restaurants... Bistro on Five - Crepes YES!!! Both Savory & Sweet 🙂 And Much Much More... The Memories of Mom on her first & only cruise & my nephew @ 10 months playing on the floor w/ the Captain in the Atrium, my sisters & I and all the individualized attention we experienced from the Crew!! It was Fantabulous... (we sailed inside connecting cabins - no suites). Johnny & I have truly enjoyed our time w/ Celebrity and are sad many of these memories are no longer active or part of the offerings... However, we continue to make new memories w/ Celebrity and others... Celebrity is our favorite of the 3 lines we sail - but another generally has the unique itineraries we are seeking... Apples to Apples comparison - Celebrity will always win 🙂 Edited August 11, 2023 by Von & John

What I remember about Millie when X built her. Celebrity said it was an no smoking ship. While I was reboarding Millie in the Caribbean in 2001. I remember seeing cartons of cigarettes being held for you until the last evening of the cruise. It did not last long. Non smoking was the reason we changed from Holland and Royal to Celebrity in 2001. Now that it looks like X might have vaping inside we have booked a Princess cruise. 1

Mints supplied after dinner each night as you were leaving the dining room. Automatically providing a water pitcher and ice bucket for each cabin that got refilled twice each day, without your needing to request them. Some new passengers may not even realize that they are available upon request. Supplying writing paper and pens in each cabin without needing to ask for them. Especially handy the first day for jotting down reminders of things to ask your butler/stateroom attendant, or even for your own to-do list. In the past, they were always provided by each telephone so you could jot down notes when you got a phone call. Lately, this seems to be random hit or miss. When asked why they no longer supply such items, the standard reply has been that not everyone wants them or uses them. But they could/should at least provide a list in each cabin of additional items that are available upon request. They used to provide a large jar with cotton balls and q-tips for every cabin bathroom, not only for suites, which still get them. Those tiny little cardboard boxes where you need to cut the cellophane wrapper off each individual small packet of q-tips are an inconvenient pain, besides being an enormous waste of cardboard. The old piano bar in Michaels' club with the silly guy who put on a show making fun of people who have granite countertops and stainless steel appliances in their homes (don't recall his name). Some people loved him and some hated him, but he was always a topic of discussion. There were other piano bar players as well, but that guy seemed to be the one who drew the most attention. A nice touch that is no more was having a harpist playing during meals and also the string quartet (which was reduced to a string trio, and then to a string duo). Being assisted with your carry-on luggage and escorted to your cabin upon embarkation was especially helpful for new passengers, instead of the current bedlam on embarkation day with new passengers scurrying around trying to find their cabins. Those who did not want an escort could simply decline the offer. They also used to have an age restriction on children in the specialty restaurants (which could be a big plus or minus, depending on whether or not you were the one with the small children). I'm glad to learn that they are again providing daily water in aqua class. It is long overdue. His name was Perry Grant.

mailmama Posted August 12, 2023 #268 Share Posted August 12, 2023 Any one remember when they had stationary and a post card of your ship? I still have many of the post cards actually framed in a collage! I miss the excitement of the midnight buffet. I never ate a thing but loved the presentation! ( my family consumed my share, don't worry about waste!!)

bigbenboys Posted August 12, 2023 #270 Share Posted August 12, 2023 Both M and S class ships have an inside Sky Lounge forward open for all most of the time. E class I cant think of any inside lounge looking forward. The Retreat Lounge does not face forward. Neither does Luminae. Those of us in suites must go outside at the Retreat Sun Deck to look forward.
