Booking next cruise onboard incentive

In a few weeks we will be on the Jewel and I was thinking to put a deposit on our next cruise, which will have to be an open cruise since it will be another Europe cruise in 2021. Not available yet. What is the incentive for this?

Bear in mind, the "new" open booking has a 1 year limit.

Ah..good news and bad then.  I used to love stock piling the next cruise certificates that did not expire.  Wish I still had some!

Well, even the old ones were supposed to be non-refundable.  However, I suspect these new ones will be more tightly controlled as far as non-refundability.

I am happy for the "old" future booking option.  I regretted booking about a year ago under old plan and ended up cancelling and losing deposit because of changes in circumstances.

In addition to the 1 year expiration, one needs to book a sail date within 2 months in order to receive the extra OBC! If the booking is made outside the 2 months window, then there is no OBC, and this negates the whole point on doing a next cruise booking on board....hmmmmm

Thanks, I missed that restriction.  Makes the open booking even more useless.

I just booked on board last weekend.  $100 OBC for a balcony cabin and reduced $80 deposit per person is what I got.

The way I read it, you now have 2 months from the day you leave the ship.

The 2 month change thing might take effect for onboard bookings made May 1, 2019 and after.

With them giving one month to change anyway it seems to be of little value beyond marketing

We booked a couple of weeks ago onboard, and it was 30 days after your cruise ends.

We were on the Navigator the beginning of March.  I was looking to book a B2B in Australia for Feb/March 2021.  The cruise was not out yet, but yet we were able to book it for 2020 (same cruise, different year).  At that time we had 1 month from the day we got off the ship (which I see now has changed to 2 months).  As soon as our cruises came out we were able to switch to the dates we actually wanted.  It was well over a year!!  and had no problems at all!!  Also, we were given a cruise credit from the problems we had on the Navigator (we were on the 1st sailing after drydock) and according to the certificate when I got it, it said that the cruise needed to be taken within 1 year.  I called RCCL and they said no problem, that we could use it for the 2021 cruise, we just needed to have it booked within a year.
