st petersburg tour

Seems a bit of a waste - St Petersburg is well worth two full days or more.

But yes, can be done.

Bear in mind that unless you buy a visa (which needs to be purchased well in advance & is expensive and involves going through hoops) you will be allowed off the ship only for an excursion booked with the ship or with one of the many excellent local tour operators. - a tour ticket for Day One will not get you through immigration on Day Two.

Those excursions need to be booked in advance so that immigration have a record of the booking, and if you book it with a local operator it'll be by e-mail and you'll need to get the booking printed-off.

So decide well in advance whether you want an excursion on both days or to spend one day aboard the ship, cos it's not a decision you can make at the last minute.

I agree that one would wish to maximize their time in St. Petersburg - there is so much to see that a week barely scratches the surface.

However, you can do a one day tour is you wish & stay aboard ship the second day. Your ship should offer a one day tour or you could book a private tour with one of the local operators (their group tours will usually be 2 days if your ship is in port for 2 days). If you have a Russian visa, you can do whatever you wish on the second day.

We have booked a private one day tour for two people with Dancing Bear Tours on our upcoming visit to St Petersburg next month.  We gave them a list of places we wanted to visit during the day including lunch and they gave us a price.  We had to pre-pay 50% up front on our credit card and pay the rest in cash on the day. Dancing Bear Tours have good reviews on Trip Advisor and were the only company I could find who would do a private one day tour.  The reason we opted for one day rather than two is that I couldn't stand the thought of being rushed through palaces and museums with hundreds of other people and not see very much.  We would rather just see what we wanted at our own pace.  We will enjoy the peace of the ship on Day 2.

Everyone is different so enjoy your trip your way.

We booked with anastasia.travelfor a one full day. Although we wanted to see everything possible, even two days are not enough, but we were happy with our tour since Anastasia had it customized for us. As long as you know what you want to see, i still recommend booking the 2-days tour. Have fun!
