Baltic Cruise reviews on this forum?

Use this forum a lot, river cruised, Alaska cruised, Galapagos cruised etc.

 

Now looking at cruise in the Baltic. Maybe I am missing something, but I cannot find anything on this. It is not listed as a destination. Maybe it is too nichey?

 

Anyway, looking for comparisons of various cruises, e.g. Celebrity vs. viking vs. etc. etc.

 

Did a search but finding nothing? Overthinking what to look for? Thanks for any help.

I did a review of our Baltic cruise. It's from 2007, so it may be somewhat dated, but here it is:

We did a Baltic cruise for our first cruise back in '09.  It was a fantastic trip.  We started in Stockholm, and were there for two days.  We toured where the Nobel ceremonies are held, the castle, and saw the Vasa, among other things.  Sailing out of there, the views of the archipelago are wonderful.  Next was Talinn, which is small, and a ship's tour for a half day showed us most of the place.  We wandered for the other half of the day.  Our Oceania cruise was in St. Petersburg for three days.  We did private tours every day, saw the Hermitage, took the boat ride to see Catherine's Palace and the winter residence there, asked to see a subway station in St. Petersburg as part of one day, and they are magnificent, but watch the pickpockets if you ride the subway.  We were told to check out the caviar bar at the Grand Hotel (?), but none of our group wanted to.  St. Petersburg was fantastic.

 

Next was Helsinki, which doesn't take much to see.  You can walk around easily.  The farmers' market/craft market at the harbor was very interesting.

 

Then on to Gdansk.  We took a tour of a small concentration camp, and that took most of the day, though we wandered through town the rest of the day.  A stop in Warnemunde in Germany afforded time to drive to Berlin for the day.  That was very interesting, the best being our stumbling on the Pergamon Museum with its wall from Babylon.  Incredible.  The tour took us along the remaining chunk of the wall, we saw Checkpoint Charlie, the Brandenburg Gate, etc.

 

Then on to Copenhagen where we took a tour of the castle and its gold treasures, and we walked around town a bit and saw the Tivoli Gardens but did not go in.  Next was Brugge which was really great.  We took a walking tour and a short boat tour.  Amsterdam was our last stop before going back to the UK.

 

Fantastic trip.  We did almost all private tours.

The Baltic itineraries are wonderful. The ports matter far more than the ship - the time spent in each port is of the most significance if you want to maximize your experiences. St. Petersburg is the crown jewel on the Baltic - ships spending 3 days in St. Pete would be optimal imho.
